| 31:1 | I made a couenant with mine eyes; why then should I thinke vpon a mayd? |
| 31:2 | For what portion of God is there from aboue? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? |
| 31:3 | Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquitie? |
| 31:4 | Doeth not he see my wayes, and count all my steps? |
| 31:5 | If I haue walked with vanitie, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit; |
| 31:6 | Let me bee weighed in an euen ballance, that God may know mine integritie. |
| 31:7 | If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaued to my hands: |
| 31:8 | Then let mee sow, and let another eate, yea let my off-spring be rooted out. |
| 31:9 | If mine heart haue bene deceiued by a woman, or if I haue layde wait at my neighbours doore: |
| 31:10 | Then let my wife grind vnto another, and let others bow downe vpon her. |
| 31:11 | For this is an heinous crime, yea, it is an iniquitie to bee punished by the Iudges. |
| 31:12 | For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would roote out all mine encrease. |
| 31:13 | If I did despise the cause of my man-seruant, or of my mayd-seruant, when they contended with me: |
| 31:14 | What then shall I do, when God riseth vp? and when hee visiteth, what shall I answere him? |
| 31:15 | Did not hee that made mee in the wombe, make him? and did not one fashion vs in the wombe? |
| 31:16 | If I haue withhelde the poore from their desire, or haue caused the eyes of the widow to faile: |
| 31:17 | Or haue eaten my morsell my selfe alone, and the fatherlesse hath not eaten thereof: |
| 31:18 | (For from my youth hee was brought vp with me as with a father, and I haue guided her from my mothers wombe.) |
| 31:19 | If I haue seene any perish for want of cloathing, or any poore without couering: |
| 31:20 | If his loynes haue not blessed me, and if hee were not warmed with the fleece of my sheepe: |
| 31:21 | If I haue lift vp my hand against the fatherlesse, when I saw my helpe in the gate: |
| 31:22 | Then let mine arme fall from my shoulder-blade, and mine arme be broken from the bone. |
| 31:23 | For destruction from God was a terrour to mee: and by reason of his highnesse, I could not endure. |
| 31:24 | If I haue made golde my hope, or haue said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence: |
| 31:25 | If I reioyced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much: |
| 31:26 | If I beheld the Sunne when it shined, or the Moone walking in brightnesse: |
| 31:27 | And my heart hath bene secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand: |
| 31:28 | This also were an iniquitie to be punished by the Iudge: For I should haue denied the God that is aboue. |
| 31:29 | If I reioyced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lift vp my selfe when euill found him: |
| 31:30 | (Neither haue I suffered my mouth to sinne by wishing a curse to his soule.) |
| 31:31 | If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! wee cannot be satisfied. |
| 31:32 | The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doores to the trauailer. |
| 31:33 | If I couered my transgressions, as Adam: by hiding mine iniquitie in my bosome: |
| 31:34 | Did I feare a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrifie me: that I kept silence, and went not out of the doore? |
| 31:35 | O that one would heare me! beholde, my desire is, that the Almightie would answere me, and that mine aduersary had written a booke. |
| 31:36 | Surely I would take it vpon my shoulder, and bind it as a crowne to me. |
| 31:37 | I would declare vnto him the number of my steps, as a prince would I goe neere vnto him. |
| 31:38 | If my land cry against me, or that the furrowes likewise thereof complaine: |
| 31:39 | If I haue eaten the fruits thereof without money, or haue caused the owners thereof to loose their life: |
| 31:40 | Let thistles grow in stead of wheat, and cockle in stead of barley. The words of Iob are ended. |

| 31:11 | For this is a wickednes, and iniquitie to bee condemned: |
| 31:12 | Yea, this is a fire that shall deuoure to destruction, and which shall roote out al mine increase, |
| 31:13 | If I did contemne the iudgement of my seruant, and of my mayde, when they did contend with me, |
| 31:14 | What then shall I do when God standeth vp? and when he shall visit me, what shall I answere? |
| 31:15 | He that hath made me in the wombe, hath he not made him? hath not he alone facioned vs in the wombe? |
| 31:16 | If I restrained the poore of their desire, or haue caused the eyes of the widow to faile, |
| 31:17 | Or haue eaten my morsels alone, and the fatherles hath not eaten thereof, |
| 31:18 | (For from my youth hee hath growen vp with me as with a father, and from my mothers wombe I haue bene a guide vnto her) |
| 31:19 | If I haue seene any perish for want of clothing, or any poore without couering, |
| 31:20 | If his loynes haue not blessed me, because he was warmed with the fleece of my sheepe, |

| 31:23 | For Gods punishment was fearefull vnto me, and I could not be deliuered from his highnes. |
| 31:24 | If I made gold mine hope, or haue sayd to the wedge of golde, Thou art my confidence, |
| 31:25 | If I reioyced because my substance was great, or because mine hand had gotten much, |
| 31:26 | If I did behold the sunne, when it shined, or the moone, walking in her brightnes, |
| 31:27 | If mine heart did flatter me in secrete, or if my mouth did kisse mine hand, |
| 31:28 | (This also had bene an iniquitie to be condemned: for I had denied the God aboue) |
| 31:29 | If I reioyced at his destruction that hated me, or was mooued to ioye when euill came vpon him, |
| 31:30 | Neither haue I suffred my mouth to sinne, by wishing a curse vnto his soule. |

| 31:37 | I will tell him the nomber of my goings, and goe vnto him as to a prince. |
| 31:38 | If my lande cry against me, or the furrowes thereof complayne together, |
| 31:39 | If I haue eaten the fruites thereof without siluer: or if I haue grieued the soules of the masters thereof, |

| 31:3 | As for the vngodly and he that ioyneth him selfe to the company of wycked doers, shall not destruccion and misery come vpon him? |
| 31:4 | Doth not he se my wayes, and tell all my goinges? |
| 31:5 | If I haue walked in vanite, or yf my fete haue runne to disceaue: |
| 31:6 | let me be weyed in an euen balaunce, that God may se my innocency. |
| 31:7 | If so be that I haue withdrawne my fote out of the right waye, and yf my hert hath folowed mine eye sight? If I haue stained or defiled my handes? |
| 31:8 | then shal I sowe, and another eate, yee, my generacion and posterite shall be cleane roted out. |
| 31:9 | If my hert hath lusted after my neghboures wyffe, or yf I haue layde wayte at his dore? |
| 31:10 | O then let my wiffe grinde vnto another man and let other men lie with her. |
| 31:11 | For this is a wickednesse and synne, that is worthy to be punisshed, |
| 31:12 | yee, a fyre that vtterly shulde consume, and rote out all my substaunce. |
| 31:13 | Did I euer thinke scorne to do right vnto my seruauntes and maydens, when they had eny mater agaynst me? |
| 31:14 | But seinge that God will sytt in iudgment, what shall I do? And for so moch as he will nedes visett me, what answere shall I geue him? |
| 31:15 | He that fashioned me in my mothers wombe, made he not him also? were we not both shapena like in oure mothers bodies? |
| 31:16 | When the poore desired any thinge at me, haue I denied it them? Haue I caused the widdowe to stande waytinge for me in vayne? |
| 31:17 | Haue I eaten my porcion alone, that the fatherlesse hath had no parte with me? |
| 31:18 | for mercy grewe vp with me fro my youth, and compassion fro my mothers wombe. |
| 31:19 | Haue I sene any man perishe thorow nakednesse and want of clothinge? Or any poore man for lack of rayment, |
| 31:20 | whose sydes thancked me not, because he was warmed with the wolle of my shepe? |
| 31:21 | Dyd I euer lyfte vp my hande to hurte the fatherlesse? yee, in the gate where I sawe my selfe to be in auctorite: |
| 31:22 | then let myne arme fall fro my shulder, and myne arme holes be broken from the ioyntes. |
| 31:23 | For I haue euer feared the vengeaunce and punyshement of God, and knewe very well, that I was not able to beare hys burthen. |
| 31:24 | Haue I put my trust in golde? Or haue I sayde to the fynest golde of all: thou arte my confidence? |
| 31:25 | Haue I reioysed because my power was great, and because my hande gat so moche? |
| 31:26 | Dyd I euer greatly regarde the rysynge of the sonne? or had I the goinge downe of the moone in greate reputacyon? |
| 31:27 | Hath my hert medled priuely with any disceate? Or, dyd I euer kysse myne awne hande? |
| 31:28 | that were a wyckednesse worthy to be punished, for then shulde I haue denyed the God that is aboue. |
| 31:29 | Haue I euer reioysed at the hurte of myne enemy? Or was I euer glad, that any harme happened vnto him? Oh no. |
| 31:30 | I neuer suffred my mouth to do soch a synne, as to wish him euell. |
| 31:31 | Dyd not the men of myne awne houshold saye: who shall let vs to haue oure belly full of his fleshe? |
| 31:32 | I haue not suffred a straunger to lye without, but I opened my dores vnto him, that went by the waye. |
| 31:33 | Haue I kepte secrete my synne and hyd myne iniquite, as Adam dyd? |
| 31:34 | Haue I feared any great multitude of people: or yf I had bene dispysed of the symple, O then shulde I haue bene afrayed. Thus haue I quyetly spent my lyfe, and not gone out at the dore. |
| 31:35 | O that I had one which wolde heare me. Lo, this is my cause. In the which the almyghty shall answere for me: though he that is my contrary party, hath written a boke agaynst me. |
| 31:36 | Yet wyll I take him vpon my shulder, and as a garlande about my head. |
| 31:37 | I wyll tell him, the nomber of my goinges, and go vnto him as to a Prince. |
| 31:38 | But yf case be that my lande crye agaynst me, or that the forowes therof make any complaynte: |
| 31:39 | yf I haue eaten the frutes therof vnpayed for, yee yf I haue greued any of the plowmen: |
| 31:40 | then let thystles growe in steade of my wheate, & cockle for my barleye. Here ende the wordes of Iob: |
