Job - Chapter: 31

>
31:1I made a couenant with mine eyes; why then should I thinke vpon a mayd?
31:2For what portion of God is there from aboue? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
31:3Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquitie?
31:4Doeth not he see my wayes, and count all my steps?
31:5If I haue walked with vanitie, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;
31:6Let me bee weighed in an euen ballance, that God may know mine integritie.
31:7If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaued to my hands:
31:8Then let mee sow, and let another eate, yea let my off-spring be rooted out.
31:9If mine heart haue bene deceiued by a woman, or if I haue layde wait at my neighbours doore:
31:10Then let my wife grind vnto another, and let others bow downe vpon her.
31:11For this is an heinous crime, yea, it is an iniquitie to bee punished by the Iudges.
31:12For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would roote out all mine encrease.
31:13If I did despise the cause of my man-seruant, or of my mayd-seruant, when they contended with me:
31:14What then shall I do, when God riseth vp? and when hee visiteth, what shall I answere him?
31:15Did not hee that made mee in the wombe, make him? and did not one fashion vs in the wombe?
31:16If I haue withhelde the poore from their desire, or haue caused the eyes of the widow to faile:
31:17Or haue eaten my morsell my selfe alone, and the fatherlesse hath not eaten thereof:
31:18(For from my youth hee was brought vp with me as with a father, and I haue guided her from my mothers wombe.)
31:19If I haue seene any perish for want of cloathing, or any poore without couering:
31:20If his loynes haue not blessed me, and if hee were not warmed with the fleece of my sheepe:
31:21If I haue lift vp my hand against the fatherlesse, when I saw my helpe in the gate:
31:22Then let mine arme fall from my shoulder-blade, and mine arme be broken from the bone.
31:23For destruction from God was a terrour to mee: and by reason of his highnesse, I could not endure.
31:24If I haue made golde my hope, or haue said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence:
31:25If I reioyced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much:
31:26If I beheld the Sunne when it shined, or the Moone walking in brightnesse:
31:27And my heart hath bene secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:
31:28This also were an iniquitie to be punished by the Iudge: For I should haue denied the God that is aboue.
31:29If I reioyced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lift vp my selfe when euill found him:
31:30(Neither haue I suffered my mouth to sinne by wishing a curse to his soule.)
31:31If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! wee cannot be satisfied.
31:32The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doores to the trauailer.
31:33If I couered my transgressions, as Adam: by hiding mine iniquitie in my bosome:
31:34Did I feare a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrifie me: that I kept silence, and went not out of the doore?
31:35O that one would heare me! beholde, my desire is, that the Almightie would answere me, and that mine aduersary had written a booke.
31:36Surely I would take it vpon my shoulder, and bind it as a crowne to me.
31:37I would declare vnto him the number of my steps, as a prince would I goe neere vnto him.
31:38If my land cry against me, or that the furrowes likewise thereof complaine:
31:39If I haue eaten the fruits thereof without money, or haue caused the owners thereof to loose their life:
31:40Let thistles grow in stead of wheat, and cockle in stead of barley. The words of Iob are ended.

31:1I made a couenant with mine eyes: why then should I thinke on a mayde?
31:2For what portion should I haue of God from aboue? and what inheritance of the Almightie from on hie?
31:3Is not destruction to the wicked and strange punishment to the workers of iniquitie?
31:4Doeth not he beholde my wayes and tell all my steps?
31:5If I haue walked in vanitie, or if my foote hath made haste to deceite,
31:6Let God weigh me in the iust balance, and he shall know mine vprightnes.
31:7If my steppe hath turned out of the way, or mine heart hath walked after mine eye, or if any blot hath cleaued to mine handes,
31:8Let me sowe, and let another eate: yea, let my plantes be rooted out.
31:9If mine heart hath bene deceiued by a woman, or if I haue layde wayte at the doore of my neighbour,
31:10Let my wife grinde vnto another man, and let other men bow downe vpon her:
31:11For this is a wickednes, and iniquitie to bee condemned:
31:12Yea, this is a fire that shall deuoure to destruction, and which shall roote out al mine increase,
31:13If I did contemne the iudgement of my seruant, and of my mayde, when they did contend with me,
31:14What then shall I do when God standeth vp? and when he shall visit me, what shall I answere?
31:15He that hath made me in the wombe, hath he not made him? hath not he alone facioned vs in the wombe?
31:16If I restrained the poore of their desire, or haue caused the eyes of the widow to faile,
31:17Or haue eaten my morsels alone, and the fatherles hath not eaten thereof,
31:18(For from my youth hee hath growen vp with me as with a father, and from my mothers wombe I haue bene a guide vnto her)
31:19If I haue seene any perish for want of clothing, or any poore without couering,
31:20If his loynes haue not blessed me, because he was warmed with the fleece of my sheepe,
31:21If I haue lift vp mine hande against the fatherlesse, when I saw that I might helpe him in the gate,
31:22Let mine arme fal from my shoulder, and mine arme be broken from the bone.
31:23For Gods punishment was fearefull vnto me, and I could not be deliuered from his highnes.
31:24If I made gold mine hope, or haue sayd to the wedge of golde, Thou art my confidence,
31:25If I reioyced because my substance was great, or because mine hand had gotten much,
31:26If I did behold the sunne, when it shined, or the moone, walking in her brightnes,
31:27If mine heart did flatter me in secrete, or if my mouth did kisse mine hand,
31:28(This also had bene an iniquitie to be condemned: for I had denied the God aboue)
31:29If I reioyced at his destruction that hated me, or was mooued to ioye when euill came vpon him,
31:30Neither haue I suffred my mouth to sinne, by wishing a curse vnto his soule.
31:31Did not the men of my Tabernacle say, Who shall giue vs of his flesh? we can not bee satisfied.
31:32The stranger did not lodge in the streete, but I opened my doores vnto him, that went by the way.
31:33If I haue hid my sinne, as Adam, concealing mine iniquitie in my bosome,
31:34Though I could haue made afraid a great multitude, yet the most contemptible of the families did feare me: so I kept silence, and went not out of the doore.
31:35Oh that I had some to heare me! beholde my signe that the Almightie will witnesse for me: though mine aduersary should write a booke against me,
31:36Woulde not I take it vpon my shoulder, and binde it as a crowne vnto me?
31:37I will tell him the nomber of my goings, and goe vnto him as to a prince.
31:38If my lande cry against me, or the furrowes thereof complayne together,
31:39If I haue eaten the fruites thereof without siluer: or if I haue grieued the soules of the masters thereof,
31:40Let thistles growe in steade of wheate, and cockle in the stead of Barley. The wordes of Iob are ended.

31:1I Made a couenaunt wt myne eyes that I wolde not loke vpon a damsell.
31:2For how great a porcion shall I haue of God? & what enheritaunce from the almightie on hie?
31:3As for the vngodly and he that ioyneth him selfe to the company of wycked doers, shall not destruccion and misery come vpon him?
31:4Doth not he se my wayes, and tell all my goinges?
31:5If I haue walked in vanite, or yf my fete haue runne to disceaue:
31:6let me be weyed in an euen balaunce, that God may se my innocency.
31:7If so be that I haue withdrawne my fote out of the right waye, and yf my hert hath folowed mine eye sight? If I haue stained or defiled my handes?
31:8then shal I sowe, and another eate, yee, my generacion and posterite shall be cleane roted out.
31:9If my hert hath lusted after my neghboures wyffe, or yf I haue layde wayte at his dore?
31:10O then let my wiffe grinde vnto another man and let other men lie with her.
31:11For this is a wickednesse and synne, that is worthy to be punisshed,
31:12yee, a fyre that vtterly shulde consume, and rote out all my substaunce.
31:13Did I euer thinke scorne to do right vnto my seruauntes and maydens, when they had eny mater agaynst me?
31:14But seinge that God will sytt in iudgment, what shall I do? And for so moch as he will nedes visett me, what answere shall I geue him?
31:15He that fashioned me in my mothers wombe, made he not him also? were we not both shapena like in oure mothers bodies?
31:16When the poore desired any thinge at me, haue I denied it them? Haue I caused the widdowe to stande waytinge for me in vayne?
31:17Haue I eaten my porcion alone, that the fatherlesse hath had no parte with me?
31:18for mercy grewe vp with me fro my youth, and compassion fro my mothers wombe.
31:19Haue I sene any man perishe thorow nakednesse and want of clothinge? Or any poore man for lack of rayment,
31:20whose sydes thancked me not, because he was warmed with the wolle of my shepe?
31:21Dyd I euer lyfte vp my hande to hurte the fatherlesse? yee, in the gate where I sawe my selfe to be in auctorite:
31:22then let myne arme fall fro my shulder, and myne arme holes be broken from the ioyntes.
31:23For I haue euer feared the vengeaunce and punyshement of God, and knewe very well, that I was not able to beare hys burthen.
31:24Haue I put my trust in golde? Or haue I sayde to the fynest golde of all: thou arte my confidence?
31:25Haue I reioysed because my power was great, and because my hande gat so moche?
31:26Dyd I euer greatly regarde the rysynge of the sonne? or had I the goinge downe of the moone in greate reputacyon?
31:27Hath my hert medled priuely with any disceate? Or, dyd I euer kysse myne awne hande?
31:28that were a wyckednesse worthy to be punished, for then shulde I haue denyed the God that is aboue.
31:29Haue I euer reioysed at the hurte of myne enemy? Or was I euer glad, that any harme happened vnto him? Oh no.
31:30I neuer suffred my mouth to do soch a synne, as to wish him euell.
31:31Dyd not the men of myne awne houshold saye: who shall let vs to haue oure belly full of his fleshe?
31:32I haue not suffred a straunger to lye without, but I opened my dores vnto him, that went by the waye.
31:33Haue I kepte secrete my synne and hyd myne iniquite, as Adam dyd?
31:34Haue I feared any great multitude of people: or yf I had bene dispysed of the symple, O then shulde I haue bene afrayed. Thus haue I quyetly spent my lyfe, and not gone out at the dore.
31:35O that I had one which wolde heare me. Lo, this is my cause. In the which the almyghty shall answere for me: though he that is my contrary party, hath written a boke agaynst me.
31:36Yet wyll I take him vpon my shulder, and as a garlande about my head.
31:37I wyll tell him, the nomber of my goinges, and go vnto him as to a Prince.
31:38But yf case be that my lande crye agaynst me, or that the forowes therof make any complaynte:
31:39yf I haue eaten the frutes therof vnpayed for, yee yf I haue greued any of the plowmen:
31:40then let thystles growe in steade of my wheate, & cockle for my barleye. Here ende the wordes of Iob:
