Psalms - Chapter: 55

>
55:1[To the chiefe musician on Neginoth, Maschil. A Psalme of Dauid.] Giue eare to my prayer, O God: and hide not thy selfe from my supplication.
55:2Attend vnto me, and heare me: I mourne in my complaint, and make a noise.
55:3Because of the voyce of the enemie, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquitie vpon me, and in wrath they hate me.
55:4My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrours of death are fallen vpon me.
55:5Fearefulnesse and trembling are come vpon me, and horrour hath ouerwhelmed me.
55:6And I said, O that I had wings like a doue; for then would I flee away and be at rest.
55:7Loe, then would I wander farre off, and remaine in the wildernesse. Selah.
55:8I would hasten my escape from the windie storme, and tempest.
55:9Destroy, O Lord, and diuide their tongues: for I haue seene violence and strife in the citie.
55:10Day and night they goe about it vpon the walles thereof: mischiefe also and sorrow are in the midst of it.
55:11Wickednesse is in the midst thereof: deceite and guile depart not from her streets.
55:12For it was not an enemie that reproached me, then I could haue borne it, neither was it hee that hated me, that did magnifie himselfe against me, then I would haue hid my selfe from him.
55:13But it was thou, a man, mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.
55:14Wee tooke sweet counsell together, and walked vnto the house of God in companie.
55:15Let death seaze vpon them, and let them goe downe quicke into hell: for wickednes is in their dwellings, and among them.
55:16As for me, I will call vpon God: and the Lord shall saue me.
55:17Euening and morning, and at noone will I pray, and crie aloud: and he shall heare my voyce.
55:18He hath deliuered my soule in peace from the battell that was against me: for there were many with me.
55:19God shall heare and afflict them, euen he that abideth of old, Selah: because they haue no changes, therefore they feare not God.
55:20He hath put foorth his handes against such as be at peace with him: he hath broken his couenant.
55:21The words of his mouth were smoother then butter, but warre was in his heart: his words were softer then oyle, yet were they drawen swords.
55:22Cast thy burden vpon the Lord, and he shall sustaine thee: hee shall neuer suffer the righteous to bee moued.
55:23But thou, O God, shalt bring them downe into the pit of destruction: Bloody and deceitfull men shall not liue out halfe their dayes, but I will trust in thee.

55:1To him that excelleth on Neginoth. A Psalme of David to give instruction. Heare my prayer, O God, and hide not thy selfe from my supplication.
55:2Hearken vnto me, and answere me: I mourne in my prayer, and make a noyse,
55:3For the voyce of the enemie, and for the vexation of ye wicked, because they haue brought iniquitie vpon me, and furiously hate me.
55:4Mine heart trembleth within mee, and the terrours of death are fallen vpon me.
55:5Feare and trembling are come vpon mee, and an horrible feare hath couered me.
55:6And I said, Oh that I had wings like a doue: then would I flie away and rest.
55:7Beholde, I woulde take my flight farre off, and lodge in the wildernes. Selah.
55:8Hee would make haste for my deliuerance from the stormie winde and tempest.
55:9Destroy, O Lord, and deuide their tongues: for I haue seene crueltie and strife in the citie.
55:10Day and night they goe about it vpon the walles thereof: both iniquitie and mischiefe are in the middes of it.
55:11Wickednes is in the middes thereof: deceit and guile depart not from her streetes.
55:12Surely mine enemie did not defame mee: for I could haue borne it: neither did mine aduersarie exalt himselfe against mee: for I would haue hid me from him.
55:13But it was thou, O man, euen my companion, my guide and my familiar:
55:14Which delited in consulting together, and went into the House of God as companions.
55:15Let death sense vpon them: let them goe downe quicke into the graue: for wickednes is in their dwellings, euen in the middes of them.
55:16But I will call vnto God, and the Lord will saue me.
55:17Euening and morning, and at noone will I pray, and make a noyse, and he wil heare my voice.
55:18He hath deliuered my soule in peace from the battel, that was against me: for many were with me.
55:19God shall heare and afflict them, euen hee that reigneth of olde, Selah. because they haue no changes, therefore they feare not God.
55:20Hee layed his hande vpon such, as be at peace with him, and he brake his couenant.
55:21The wordes of his mouth were softer then butter, yet warre was in his heart: his words were more gentle then oyle, yet they were swordes.
55:22Cast thy burden vpon the Lord, and hee shall nourish thee: he wil not suffer the righteous to fall for euer.
55:23And thou, O God, shalt bring them downe into the pitte of corruption: the bloudie, and deceitfull men shall not liue halfe their dayes: but I will trust in thee.

55:1To the chaunter in melodyes, an instruccyon of Dauid. Heare my prayer (O God) and hide not thy selfe fro my peticion. Take hede vnto me, and heare me, how I mourne in my prayer, & am vexed.
55:2The enemy cryeth so, and the vngodly cometh on so fast: for they are mynded to do me some mischefe, so maliciously are they sett agaynst me.
55:3My herte is dysquyeted within me, and the feare of death is fallen vpon me.
55:4Fearfulnes and trembling are come vpon me, and an horryble drede hath ouerwhelmed me.
55:5And I sayd: O that I had winges like a doue, for then wold I flie awaye, and be at reste.
55:6Lo, then wolde I gett me awaye farre of, and remayne in the wildernes. Sela.
55:7I wolde make hast to escape, because of the stormy wynd and tempeste.
55:8Destroye theyr tonges (O Lorde) and deuide them, for I haue spyed vnrighteousnes and stryfe in the cyte.
55:9Daye and night go they about within the walles therof: myschefe also, and sorow are in the myddest of it.
55:10Wyckednes is therin, dysceate, and gyle go not out of her stretes.
55:11For it is not an open enemye that hath done me thys dishonoure: for then I coulde haue borne it: nether was it myne aduersary, that did magnifye hym selfe agaynst me: for then I wolde haue hyd my selfe from hym.
55:12But it was euen thou my companion: my gyde, and myne awne familyer frende.
55:13We toke swete councell together, & walked in the house of God as frendes.
55:14Lett death come hastely vpon them, and let them go downe quyck into hell, for wyckednes is in theyr dwellynges, and amonge them.
55:15As for me, I will call vnto God, and the Lorde shall saue me.
55:16In the euening, and mornynge and at noone daye wyll I praye, (and that instantly) and he shall heare my voyce.
55:17It is he that hath delyuered my soule in peace, from the batayll that was agaynst me: for there were many with me.
55:18Yee, euen God that endureth for euer, shall heare me, and bryng them downe. Sela. For they wyll not turne, ner feare God.
55:19He layed hys handes vpon soch as be at peace wt hym, and he brake hys couenaunt.
55:20The wordes of hys mouth were softer then butter, hauynge warre in his hert: hys wordes were smother then oyle, and yet be they very sweardes.
55:21O cast thy burthen, vpon the Lorde and he shall norysh the, and not suffre the ryghteous to fall for euer.
55:22And as for them, thou (O God) shalt brynge them into the pyt of destruccyon.
55:23The bloude thrusty and disceatful men shall not lyue out halfe theyr dayes. Neuerthelesse, my trust shalbe in the.
