>
55:1To the chaunter in melodyes, an instruccyon of Dauid. Heare my prayer (O God) and hide not thy selfe fro my peticion. Take hede vnto me, and heare me, how I mourne in my prayer, & am vexed.
55:2The enemy cryeth so, and the vngodly cometh on so fast: for they are mynded to do me some mischefe, so maliciously are they sett agaynst me.
55:3My herte is dysquyeted within me, and the feare of death is fallen vpon me.
55:4Fearfulnes and trembling are come vpon me, and an horryble drede hath ouerwhelmed me.
55:5And I sayd: O that I had winges like a doue, for then wold I flie awaye, and be at reste.
55:6Lo, then wolde I gett me awaye farre of, and remayne in the wildernes. Sela.
55:7I wolde make hast to escape, because of the stormy wynd and tempeste.
55:8Destroye theyr tonges (O Lorde) and deuide them, for I haue spyed vnrighteousnes and stryfe in the cyte.
55:9Daye and night go they about within the walles therof: myschefe also, and sorow are in the myddest of it.
55:10Wyckednes is therin, dysceate, and gyle go not out of her stretes.
55:11For it is not an open enemye that hath done me thys dishonoure: for then I coulde haue borne it: nether was it myne aduersary, that did magnifye hym selfe agaynst me: for then I wolde haue hyd my selfe from hym.
55:12But it was euen thou my companion: my gyde, and myne awne familyer frende.
55:13We toke swete councell together, & walked in the house of God as frendes.
55:14Lett death come hastely vpon them, and let them go downe quyck into hell, for wyckednes is in theyr dwellynges, and amonge them.
55:15As for me, I will call vnto God, and the Lorde shall saue me.
55:16In the euening, and mornynge and at noone daye wyll I praye, (and that instantly) and he shall heare my voyce.
55:17It is he that hath delyuered my soule in peace, from the batayll that was agaynst me: for there were many with me.
55:18Yee, euen God that endureth for euer, shall heare me, and bryng them downe. Sela. For they wyll not turne, ner feare God.
55:19He layed hys handes vpon soch as be at peace wt hym, and he brake hys couenaunt.
55:20The wordes of hys mouth were softer then butter, hauynge warre in his hert: hys wordes were smother then oyle, and yet be they very sweardes.
55:21O cast thy burthen, vpon the Lorde and he shall norysh the, and not suffre the ryghteous to fall for euer.
55:22And as for them, thou (O God) shalt brynge them into the pyt of destruccyon.
55:23The bloude thrusty and disceatful men shall not lyue out halfe theyr dayes. Neuerthelesse, my trust shalbe in the.

55:2God, haue thou merci on me, for a man hath defoulid me; al dai he impugnyde, and troublide me.
55:3Myn enemyes defouliden me al dai; for manye fiyteris weren ayens me.

55:8As thei abiden my lijf, for nouyt schalt thou make hem saaf; in ire thou schalt breke togidre puplis.
55:9God, Y schewide my lijf to thee; thou hast set my teeris in thi siyt. As and in thi biheest, Lord;
55:10thanne myn enemyes schulen be turned abak. In what euere dai Y schal inwardli clepe thee; lo! Y haue knowe, that thou art my God.
55:11In God Y schal preise a word; in the Lord Y schal preyse a word. Y schal hope in God; Y schal not drede what thing a man schal do to me.
55:12God, thin auowis ben in me; whiche Y schal yelde heriyngis to thee.
55:13For thou hast delyuerid my lijf fro deth, and my feet fro slidyng; that Y pleese bifore God in the liyt of hem that lyuen.

55:8Destroie their tonges (o LORDE) and deuyde them, for I se vnrightuousnes & strife in ye cite.
55:9This goeth daye and night aboute the walles, myschefe and vyce are in the myddest of it.
55:10Wickednesse is therin, disceate and gyle go not out of hir stretes.
55:11Yf it were myne enemie that reuyled me, I coude beare it: or yf one that ought me euell will dyd threaten me, I wolde hyde myself from him.
55:12But it is thou my companyon, my gyde and myne owne familier frede.
55:13We had swete and secrete communicacion together, and louyngly walked we together in ye house of God.
55:14Let death come hastely vpon them, and let them go downe quick into hell, for wickednes is amonge them in their dwellinges.
55:15As for me, I will call vnto God, and the LORDE shall helpe me.
55:16In the eueninge, mornynge and at noone daye wil I mourne and complayne: and he shal heare my voyce.
55:17It is he that delyuereth my soule in peace, from them that laye waite for me: for they are many agaynst me.

55:21O cast thy burthen (or care) vpon the LORDE, he shal norish the, and not leaue the rightuous in vnquietnesse.
