56:1To the chaunter vpon the doue of him that was domme in a farre countreye: the badg (or armes) of Dauid, when the Philistines toke hym in Geth. Be mercyfull vnto me (O God) for man goeth about to deuoure me: he is dayly fyghtynge and troublyng me.
56:2Myne enemyes are dayly in hande to swalowe me vp: for they be many that fyght agaynst me, o thou moost hyest.
56:3Neuerthelesse, though I am some tyme afrayed yet put I my trust in the.
56:4I wyll prayse God, because of hys worde, I haue put my trust in God, & wyll not feare, what flesh can do vnto me.
56:5They dayly mistake my wordes: all that they ymagyne is to do me euell.
56:6They holde all together, & kepe them selues close: & marcke my steppes, whan they laye wayte for my soule.
56:7Shall they escape for theyr wyckednes? thou (O God) in thy dyspleasure shalt cast them downe.
56:8Thou tellest my flyttynges, put my teares in thy botell: are not these thinges noted in thy booke?
56:9When soeuer I call vpon the, then shal myne enemies be put to flyght: thys I knowe, for God is on my syde.
56:10In Gods wordes wyll I reioyse, in the Lordes worde wyll I comforte me.
56:11Yee, in God haue I put my trust, I wyll not be afrayed what man can do vnto me.
56:12Unto the (O God) wyl I paye my vowes, vnto the wyll I geue thankes.
56:13For thou hast delyuered my soule from death, and my fete from falling, that I maye walke before God in the lyght of the lyuynge.

 

56:1The title of the sixte and fiftithe salm. `In Ebreu thus, To the victorie, lese thou not the semeli song, `ether the `swete song of Dauid, `whanne he fledde fro the face of Saul in to the denne. `In Jeroms translacioun thus, For victorie, that thou lese not Dauid, meke and simple, whanne he fledde fro the face of Saul in to the denne.
56:2God, haue thou merci on me, haue thou merci on me; for my soule tristith in thee. And Y schal hope in the schadewe of thi wyngis; til wickidnesse passe.
56:3I schal crye to God altherhiyeste; to God that dide wel to me.
56:4He sente fro heuene, and delyuerede me; he yaf in to schenschip hem that defoulen me. God sente his merci and his treuthe,
56:5and delyuerede my soule fro the myddis of whelpis of liouns; Y slepte disturblid. The sones of men, the teeth of hem ben armuris and arowis; and her tunge is a scharp swerd.
56:6God, be thou enhaunsid aboue heuenes; and thi glorie aboue al erthe.
56:7Thei maden redi a snare to my feet; and thei greetly boweden my lijf. Thei delueden a diche bifore my face; and thei felden doun in to it.
56:8God, myn herte is redi, myn herte is redi; Y schal singe, and Y schal seie salm.
56:9Mi glorie, rise thou vp; sautrie and harpe, rise thou vp; Y schal rise vp eerli.
56:10Lord, Y schal knouleche to thee among puplis; and Y schal seie salm among hethene men.
56:11For thi merci is magnified til to heuenes; and thi treuthe til to cloudis.
56:12God, be thou enhaunsid aboue heuenes; and thi glorie ouer al erthe.

56:3Neuerthelesse, whe I am afrayed, I put my trust in the.
56:4I wil comforte my self in Gods worde, yee I wil hope in God, and not feare: What can flesh then do vnto me?
56:5They vexe me daylie in my wordes: all yt they ymagin, is to do me euell.
56:6They holde alltogether, & kepe them selues close: they marck my steppes, how they maye catch my soule.
56:7But in vayne, for it shal escape the: and why? thou (o God) in thy displeasure shalt cast downe soch people.
56:8Thou tellest my flittinges, thou puttest my teares in thy botell, and nombrest them.
56:9When so euer I call vpon the, myne enemies are put to flight: wherby I knowe, that thou art my God.
56:10In Gods worde wil I reioyse, in the LORDES worde wil I comforte me.
56:11Yee in God do I trust, & am not afraied: what ca man the do vnto me?
56:12Vnto the (o God) wil I paye my vowes, vnto ye wil I geue thakes & prayse.
56:13For thou hast delyuered my soule fro death, & my fete fro fallinge, yt I maye walke before God in ye light of ye lyuynge.
