59:1To the chaunter: destroye not. The badge or arme of Dauid, when Saul sent and they dyd watch the house to kyll hym. Delyuer me from my enemyes (O God) defende me from them that ryse vp agaynst me.
59:2O delyuer me from the wycked doers, and saue me from the bloudthursty men.
59:3For lo, they lye waytynge for my soule: the myghty men are gathered together against me without any offence or faute of me (O Lord.)
59:4They runne and prepare them selues without my faute: Aryse, thou therfore to helpe me, and beholde.
59:5Stande vp (O Lorde God of Hoostes) thou God of Israel to vyset all heathen: and be not mercyful vnto them that offende of malycyous wyckednesse. Sela.
59:6They go to and fro in the euenynge, they grenne lyke a dogg, and runne aboute, thorow the cytie.
59:7Behold, they speake with theyr mouth, and sweardes are in theyr lyppes, for who doth heare?
59:8But thou (O Lorde) shalt haue them in derysion, and thou shalt laugh all heathen to scorne.
59:9My strength wyll I ascrybe vnto the, for thou art the God of my refuge.
59:10God sheweth me his goodnesse plenteously, and God shall lett me se my desyre vpon myne enemyes.
59:11Slaye them not, lest my people forgett it: but scatre them abroade among thy people, and put them downe (O Lorde) our defence.
59:12For the synne of their mouth, and for the wordes of theyr lyppes they shalbe taken in theyr pryde, and why? theyr preachynge is of curlynge and lyes.
59:13Consume them in thy wrath, consume them that they maye perish, and knowe that it is God, which ruleth in Iacob and vnto the endes of the world. Sela.
59:14And in the euenynge they will returne: grenne lyke a dogg and wyll go aboute the cytie.
59:15They wyll runne here and there for meate, and grudge yf they be not satisfyed.
59:16As for me, I wil singe of thy power, and will prayse thy mercy by tymes in the morninge: for thou hast bene my defence and refuge in the daye of my trouble.
59:17Unto the, O my strength, will I synge, for thou, O God, art my refyge and my mercyfull God.

 

59:1The title of the nyne and fiftithe salm. `In Ebreu thus, To victorie, on the witnessyng of roose, the swete song of Dauid, to teche, `whanne he fauyte ayens Aram of floodis, and Sirie of Soba; and Joab turnede ayen, and smoot Edom in the `valei of salt pittis, twelue thousynde. `In Jeroms translacioun thus,
59:2To the ouercomer for lilies, the witnessing of meke and parfit Dauid, to teche, whanne he fauyte ayens Sirie of Mesopotamye, and Soba, and so forth.
59:3God, thou hast put awei vs, and thou hast distried vs; thou were wrooth, and thou hast do merci to vs.
59:4Thou mouedist the erthe, and thou disturblidist it; make thou hool the sorewis therof, for it is moued.
59:5Thou schewidist harde thingis to thi puple; thou yauest drynk to vs with the wyn of compunccioun.
59:6Thou hast youe a signefiyng to hem that dreden thee; that thei fle fro the face of the bouwe. That thi derlyngis be delyuered;
59:7make thou saaf with thi riyt hond `the puple of Israel, and here thou me.
59:8God spak bi his hooli; Y schal be glad, and Y schal departe Siccimam, and Y schal meete the greet valei of tabernaclis.
59:9Galaad is myn, and Manasses is myn; and Effraym is the strengthe of myn heed.
59:10Juda is my king; Moab is the pot of myn hope. In to Idumee Y schal stretche forth my scho; aliens ben maad suget to me.
59:11Who schal lede me in to a citee maad strong; who schal leede me til in to Ydumee?
59:12Whether not thou, God, that hast put awei vs; and schalt thou not, God, go out in oure vertues?
59:13Lord, yyue thou to vs help of tribulacioun; for the heelthe of man is veyn.
59:14In God we schulen make vertu; and he schal bringe to nouyt hem that disturblen vs.

59:1Delyuer me fro myne enemies (o my God) & defende me fro the yt ryse vp agaynst me.

59:4They rune & prepare the selues, wt out my faute: Arise, come thou helpe me, & beholde.
59:5Stode vp o LORDE God of hoostes, thou God of Israel, to vyset all Heithen: be not mercifull vnto the yt offende of malicious wickednesse.
59:6Sela. Let the go to & fro, & runne aboute the cite youlinge like dogges.
59:7Beholde, they speake (agaynst me) wt their mouth, swerdes are vnder their lippes, for who reproueth the?
59:8But thou (o LORDE) shalt haue them in derision, thou shalt laugh all Heithe to scorne.
59:9My stregth do I ascrybe vnto the, for thou (o God) art my defender.
59:10God sheweth me his goodnesse plenteously, God letteth me se my desyre vpo myne enemies.
59:11Slaye the not, lest my people forget it: but scatre the abrode with thy power & put the downe, o LORDE oure defence.
59:12For ye synne of their mouth, for the wordes of their lippes, & because of their pryde, let the be taken: & why? their preachinge is of cursynge & lyes.
59:13Cosume them in yi wrath, cosume the yt they maye perish, & knowe yt it is God, which ruleth in Iacob and in all the worlde.
59:14Sela. Let the go to & fro, & rune aboute the cite, youlinge like dogges.
59:15Let the runne here & there for meate, and grudge when they haue not ynough.
59:16As for me, I wil synge of thy power, ad prayse thy mercy betymes in the mornynge: for thou art my defence and refuge in the tyme of my trouble.
59:17Vnto the (o my strength) wil I synge, for thou (o God) art my defence, and my merciful God.
