| 23:1 | The burthen of Tyre: Mourne ye shyppes of Tharsis, for there commeth such destruccyon that ye shall not haue an house to entre into: Out of the lande of Cittim haue they knowlege of thys plage. |
| 23:2 | Be styll, ye that dwell in the Ile, the marchauntes of Zidon, and such as passe ouer the see, haue made the plenteous. |
| 23:3 | The corne that groweth by the great waters of Nilus, and the frutes of the ryuer were hyr vitailes, so that it became a comen marte of the nacion |
| 23:4 | Be ashamed thou Zidon, for the see (euen the strength of the see) hath spoken, sayenge: I haue not trauayled, ner broughte forth children, ner norished vp young men, or brought vp virgins. |
| 23:5 | Whan tydinges commeth to the Egipcians they shall be sory for the rumore that goeth of Tyre. |
| 23:6 | Get you to Tharsis, mourne ye that dwell in the Ile. |
| 23:7 | Is not this that glorious cyte of youres, which hath bene of olde antiquite? Hyr awne fete shall cary hyr forth to be a sogeourner in to a farre countre. |
| 23:8 | Who hath deuysed thys agaynst Tyre (that geueth garlandes vnto other cities) whose marchauntes are princes, and whose captaines are honorable in the worlde? |
| 23:9 | Euen the lord of hoostes hath deuysed thys, to put downe the pryde of all such as be glorious, and to mynish all them that be proude vpon earth: |
| 23:10 | Get the out of thy lande vnto the daughter of Tharsis, seyng thou hast nomore strength. |
| 23:11 | He that smote the kyngdomes together, holdeth out his hande ouer the see: euen the lorde him self hath geuen a commaundement agaynst the same comen place of marchandise, that they shall vtterly destroye the might therof. |
| 23:12 | And he sayd: Make nomore thy boast (O virgin thou daughter Zidon) thou shalt be brought downe: Up, get the ouer vnto Citim, where neuertheles thou shalt haue no rest. |
| 23:13 | Behold, this people came not of the Caldees, but Assur made them strong with great shippes. They set vp the strong holdes therof, & destroyed his palaces, & he brought it in decaye. |
| 23:14 | Mourne ye shippes of tharsis for your strength is brought downe. |
| 23:15 | And in that daye shall Tyre be forgotten seuentye yeares (accordinge to the yeares of one kyng) and after the ende of the seuentye yeares shall Tyre syng as doth an harlot. |
| 23:16 | Take an harpe, & go aboute the citye (thou harlot that hast bene forgotten) make swete melody, sing moo songes, that thou mayest be had in remembraunce. |
| 23:17 | And after the ende of the seuentye yeares shall the lorde visyt Tyre, & she shall conuerte vnto her rewarde, and shall committe fornicacion with all the kyngdomes of the earth that are in the worlde. |
| 23:18 | Their occupieng also and their rewarde shalbe holy vnto the lord. Their gaynes shall not be layde vp ner kepte in stoare, but it shalbe theyrs that dwell before the lorde, that they maye eate ynough, & haue clothyng sufficient. |
| 23:1 | The birthun of Tire. Ye schippis of the see, yelle, for the hous is distried, fro whennus coumfort was wont to come; fro the lond of Cethym, and was schewid to hem. |

| 23:3 | the seed of Nylus is heruest, the flood is the corn therof, and it is maad the marchaundie of hethene men. |
| 23:4 | Thou, Sidon, be aschamed, seide the see, the strengthe of the see, and seide, Y trauelide not of child, and Y childide not, and Y nurschide not yonge men, and Y brouyte not fulli virgyns to encreessyng. |
| 23:5 | Whanne it schal be herd in Egipt, thei schulen make sorewe, whanne thei heren of Tire. |
| 23:6 | Passe ye the sees; yelle ye, that dwellen in the ile. |
| 23:7 | Whether this citee is not youre, that hadde glorie fro elde daies in his eldnesse? the feet therof schulen lede it fer, to go in pilgrymage. |
| 23:8 | Who thouyte this thing on Tire sum tyme crownede, whos marchauntis weren princes, the selleris of marchaundie therof weren noble men of erthe? |
| 23:9 | The Lord of oostis thouyte this thing, that he schulde drawe doun the pride of al glorie, and that he schulde bringe to schenschipe alle the noble men of erthe. |
| 23:10 | Thou douyter of the see, passe thi lond as a flood; a girdil is no more to thee. |
| 23:11 | It stretchide forth his hond aboue the see, and disturblide rewmes. The Lord sente ayenes Canaan, for to al to-breke the stronge men therof; |
| 23:12 | and he seide, Thou maide, the douyter of Sidon, that suffrist caleng, schalt no more adde, that thou haue glorie. Rise thou, and passe ouer the see in to Sechym; there also no reste schal be to thee. |
| 23:13 | Lo! the lond of Caldeis, sich a puple was not; Assur foundide that Tyre; thei ledden ouer in to caitifte the strong men therof; thei myneden the housis therof, thei settiden it in to fallyng. |
| 23:14 | Yelle, ye schippis of the see, for youre strengthe is distried. |
| 23:15 | And it schal be, in that dai, thou Tire, schalt be in foryetyng bi seuenti yeer, as the daies of o king; but aftir seuenti yeer, as the song of an hoore schal be to Tyre. |
| 23:16 | Thou hoore, youun to foryetyng, take an harpe, cumpasse the citee; synge thou wel, vse thou ofte a song, that mynde be of thee. |
| 23:17 | And it schal be, aftir seuenti yeer, the Lord schal visite Tire, and schal brynge it ayen to hise hiris; and eft it schal be, whanne it schal do fornycacioun with alle rewmes of erthe, on the face of erthe. |
| 23:18 | And the marchaundies therof and the meedis therof schulen be halewid to the Lord; tho schulen not be hid, nethir schulen be leid vp; for whi the marchaundie therof schal be to hem that dwellen bifore the Lord, that thei ete to fulnesse, and be clothid `til to eldnesse. |

| 23:2 | The Indwellers of the Ilondes, the marchauntes of Sidon, and they that occupied the see (of whom thou wast ful somtyme) are at a poynte. |
| 23:3 | For by see were there frutes brought vnto the, and all maner of corne by water. Thou wast the comon marcket of al people. |
| 23:4 | Sido is sory for it, yee and all ye power of the see coplaneth, and saieth: O yt I had neuer traueled with childe, that I had neuer borne eny, yt I had nether norished boye, ner brought vp doughter. |
| 23:5 | As soone as Egipte perceaueth it, she wilbe as sory as Tirus it self. |
| 23:6 | Go ouer the see, Mourne ye yt dwel in the Iles. |
| 23:7 | Is not that the glorious cite, which hath bene of longe antiquite? whose natyues dwellinge farre of, commende her so greatly? |
| 23:8 | Who hath deuysed soch thinges vpon Tirus the crowne of al cities, whose marchautes and captaynes were the highest and principal of the worlde? |
| 23:9 | Eue the LORDE of hoostes hath deuysed it, that he maye put downe al pompe, and minish all the glory of the worlde. |
| 23:10 | Go thorow thy londe (o thou doughter of the see) as men go ouer the water, and there is not a gyrdle more. |
| 23:11 | Thus the LORDE that remoueth the kingdomes, and hath taken in hande agaynst that mightie Canaan to rote it out:) hath stretched out his honde ouer the see, |
| 23:12 | and sayde: From hence forth shalt thou make no more myrth (o thou doughter Sidon) for thou shalt be put downe of the Cethes. Stonde vp therfore, and go where the enemie wil carie the, where thou shalt also haue no rest. |
| 23:13 | Beholde (for thyne ensample:) The Caldees were soch a people, that no man was like them, Assur buylded them: he set vp his castels & palaces, and broke them downe agayne. |
| 23:14 | And therfore mourne (ye shippes of the see) for youre power shalbe throwne downe. |
| 23:15 | After that, shal the lxx yeares of Tirus (euen as longe as their kinges life was) be forgotten. And after lxx. yeares, it shal happe to Tirus as with an harlot that playeth vpon a lute. |
| 23:16 | Take thy lute (saie men to her) and go aboute the citie, thou art yet an vnknowne wensche, make pastyme with dyuerse balettes, wherby thou mayest come in to acquantaunce. |
| 23:17 | Thus shal it happen after lxx. yeares. The LORDE shal uiset the citie of Tirus, and it shal come agayne to hyr Marchaundyse, and shal occupie with al the Kingdomes that be in the worlde. |
| 23:18 | But all hir occupiege and wynnynge, shalbe halowed vnto the LORDE. For then shal they laye vp nothinge behinde them nor vpon heapes: but the marchaudise of Tirus shal beloge vnto the citisens of the LORDE, to the fedinge and susteninge of the hugrie, and to the clothinge of the aged. |
