Jeremiah - Chapter: 22


22:1	Thus sayde the Lorde, Go downe into the house of the kynge of Iuda, & speake there these wordes,
22:2	and saye: Heare the worde of the Lorde, thou king of Iuda that syttest in the kyngly seat of Dauid: thou and thy seruauntes and thy people that go in and out at this gate.
22:3	Thus the Lorde commaundeth: kepe equyte and righteousnesse, deliuer the oppressed from the power of the violent: do not greue ner oppresse the straunger, the fatherlesse ner the wyddow. and shed no innocent bloude in this place.
22:4	And yf ye kepe these thynges faythfully then shal there come in at the dore of this house kinges, to sit vpon Dauids seate: they shalbe caried in Charettes and ryde vpon horses both they and their seruauntes, and theyr people.
22:5	But yf ye will not be obedient vnto these commaundementes, I sweare by myne awne selfe (sayeth the Lorde) thys house shal be waste.
22:6	For thus hath the Lorde spoken vpon the kynges house of Iuda. Thou Gilead art vnto me the head of Libanus. Shall I not make the so waste (& thy cyties also) that no man shall dwell therin?
22:7	I wil prepare a destroyer with his weapens for the, to hewe downe thy speciall Cedre trees, and to cast them in the fyre.
22:8	And all the people that go by this cytie, shal speak one to another. Wherfore hath the Lorde done thus vnto this noble cytie?
22:9	Then shall it be answered: because they haue broken the couenaunt of the Lorde theyr God, and haue worshypped & serued straunge goddes.
22:10	Mourne not ouer the deed, and be not wo for them, but be sory for hym that departeth awaye: for he commeth not agayne, and seeth his natiue countre no more.
22:11	For thus sayeth the Lorde, as touchynge Selum the sonne of Iosias kynge of Iuda, which raygned after his father, and is caried out of this place, he shal neuer come hyther agayne,
22:12	for he shal dye in the place, wher vnto he is led captiue, and shall se this lande nomore.
22:13	Wo worth him, that buyldeth hys house with vnrighteousnes, and his parlers with the good that he hath gotten by vyolence: which neuer recompenseth his neyghbours laboure, ner payeth him his hyre.
22:14	He thyncketh in him selfe. I wyll buylde me a wyde house, & gorgeous parlers. He causeth windowes to be hewen therin, and the sylynges and ioystes maketh he of Cedre, and paynteth them with Synaper.
22:15	Thynckest thou to raygne, now that thou prouokest me to wrath with the Cedre trees? Dyd not thy father eate and drincke, and prospere well, as longe as he dealt wt equite and righteousnesse?
22:16	Yee, when he helped the oppressed and poore to their right, then prospered he well. From whence came thys, but onely because he had me before hys eyes, sayeth the Lorde?
22:17	Neuertheles, as for thyne eyes and thyne herte, they loke vpon coueteousnesse, to shed innocent bloude, to do wronge & violence.
22:18	And therfore, thus sayeth the Lorde agaynst Iehoakim, the sonne of Iosias kyng of Iuda. They shall not mourne for him (as they vse to do) alas brother, alas syster. Nether shal they saye vnto him: Alas syr, alas for that noble prince.
22:19	But as an Asse shall he be buryed, corrupte and be cast without the gates of Ierusalem.
22:20	Clyme vp the hyll of Libanus (O thou daughter Sion) lyft vp thy voyce vpon Basan, crye from all partes: for all thy louers are destroyed.
22:21	I gaue the warnynge, whyle thou wast yet in prosperyte. But thou saydest: I wyll not heare. And this maner hast thou vsed from thy youth, that thou woldest neuer heare my voyce.
22:22	All thy herdmen shalbe driuen with the wynde, and thy derlynges shalbe caryed awaye into captiuite. Then shalt thou be brought to shame & confusion because of al thy wickednes:
22:23	thou that dwellest vpon Libanus, & makest thy nest in the Cedre trees O how litle shalt thou be regarded when thy sorowes & pangues come vpon the, as a woman trauelynge with chylde.
22:24	As truly as I lyue (sayeth the Lorde:) Though Conanias the sonne of Iehoakim kynge of Iuda were the sygnet of my right hande, yet will I plucke him of.
22:25	And I will geue the into the power of them that seke to slaye the, and into the power of them that thou fearest: into the power of Nabuchodonosor the Kynge of Babylon, and into the power of the Caldees.
22:26	Moreouer, I wyll sende the, and thy mother that bare the into a straunge lande, where ye were not borne, and there shall ye dye.
22:27	But as for the lande that ye wyll desyre to returne vnto, ye shal neuer come at it agayne.
22:28	This man Conanias shall be lyke an ymage robbed & torne in peces, which pleaseth noman, for all hys apparell. Wherfore both he and his sede shalbe sent awaye, and cast out into a lande, that they knowe not.
22:29	O thou earth, earth, earth: heare the worde of the Lorde. Thus sayeth the Lorde:
22:30	Wryte this man amonge the outlawes, for no prosperite shall this man haue all his lyfe longe. Nether shall eny of his sede be so happie, as to syt vpon the seat of Dauid, and to beare rule in Iuda.


22:1	The Lord seith these thingis, Go thou doun in to the hous of the kyng of Juda, and thou schalt speke there this word, and schalt seie,
22:2	Thou kyng of Juda, that sittist on the seete of Dauid, here the word of the Lord, thou, and thi seruauntis, and thi puple, that entren bi these yatis.
22:3	The Lord seith these thingis, Do ye doom, and riytfulnesse, and delyuere ye hym that is oppressid bi violence fro the hond of the fals chalenger; and nyle ye make sori, nether oppresse ye wickidli a comelyng, and a fadirles child, and a widewe, and schede ye not out innocent blood in this place.
22:4	For if ye doynge don this word, kyngis of the kyn of Dauid sittynge on his trone schulen entre bi the yatis of this hous, and schulen stie on charis and horsis, thei, and the seruauntis, and the puple of hem.
22:5	That if ye heren not these wordis, Y swoore in my silf, seith the Lord, that this hous schal be in to wildirnesse.
22:6	For the Lord seith these thingis on the hous of the kyng of Juda, Galaad, thou art to me the heed of the Liban; credence be not youun to me, if Y sette not thee a wildirnesse, citees vnhabitable.
22:7	And Y schal halewe on thee a man sleynge, and hise armuris; and thei schulen kitte doun thi chosun cedris, and schulen caste doun in to fier.
22:8	And many folkis schulen passe bi this citee, and ech man schal seie to his neiybore, Whi dide the Lord thus to this greet citee?
22:9	And thei schulen answere, For thei forsoken the couenaunt of her Lord God, and worschipiden alien goddis, and serueden hem.
22:10	Nyle ye biwepe hym that is deed, nether weile ye on hym bi wepyng; biweile ye hym that goith out, for he schal no more turne ayen, nether he schal se the lond of his birthe.
22:11	For the Lord seith these thingis to Sellum, the sone of Josie, the kyng of Juda, that regnede for Josye, his fadir, He that yede out of this place, schal no more turne ayen hidur;
22:12	but in the place to which Y translatide him, there he schal die, and he schal no more se this lond.
22:13	Wo to him that bildith his hous in vnriytfulnesse, and his soleris not in doom; he schal oppresse his freend in veyn, and he schal not yelde his hire to hym.
22:14	Which seith, Y schal bilde to me a large hous, and wide soleris; which openeth wyndows to hym silf, and makith couplis of cedre, and peyntith with reed colour.
22:15	Whether thou schalt regne, for thou comparisonest thee to a cedre? whether thi fadir eet not, and drank, and dide doom and riytfulnesse thanne, whanne it was wel to hym?
22:16	He demyde the cause of a pore man, and nedi, in to his good; whether not therfor for he knew me? seith the Lord.
22:17	Forsothe thin iyen and herte ben to aueryce, and to schede innocent blood, and to fals caleng, and to the perfourmyng of yuel werk.
22:18	Therfor the Lord seith these thingis to Joachym, the sone of Josie, the kyng of Juda, Thei schulen not biweile hym, Wo brother! and wo sistir! thei schulen not sowne togidere to hym, Wo lord! and wo noble man!
22:19	He schal be biried with the biriyng of an asse, he schal be rotun, and cast forth without the yatis of Jerusalem.
22:20	Stie thou on the Liban, and cry thou, and yyue thi vois in Basan, and cry to hem that passen forth, for alle thi louyeris ben al to-brokun.
22:21	Y spak to thee in thi plentee, and thou seidist, Y schal not here; this is thi weie fro thi yongthe, for thou herdist not my vois.
22:22	Wynd schal feede alle thi scheepherdis, and thi louyeris schulen go in to caitifte;
22:23	and thanne thou that sittist in the Liban, and makist nest in cedris, schalt be schent, and be aschamed of al thi malice. Hou weilidist thou, whanne sorewis weren comun to thee, as the sorew of a womman trauelynge of child?
22:24	I lyue, seith the Lord, for thouy Jeconye, the sone of Joachym, kyng of Juda, were a ring in my riyt hond, fro thennus Y schal drawe awei hym.
22:25	And Y schal yyue thee in the hond of hem that seken thi lijf, and in the hond of hem whos face thou dredist, and in the hond of Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne, and in the hond of Caldeis.
22:26	And Y schal sende thee, and thi moder that gendride thee, in to an alien lond, in which ye weren not borun, and there ye schulen die;
22:27	and thei schulen not turne ayen in to the lond, to which thei reisen her soule, that thei turne ayen thidur.
22:28	Whether this man Jeconye is an erthene vessel, and al to-brokun? whether a vessel withouten al likyng? Whi ben he and his seed cast awei, and cast forth in to a lond which thei knewen not?
22:29	Erthe, erthe, erthe, here thou the word of the Lord.
22:30	The Lord seith these thingis, Write thou this man bareyn, a man that schal not haue prosperite in hise daies; for of his seed schal be no man, that schal sitte on the seete of Dauid, and haue powere ferthere in Juda.

22:6	For thus hath the LORDE spoken vpon the kinges house of Iuda: Thou art the heade, as Galaad is in Libanus: What wilt thou laye of it, yf I make the not so waist (& thy cities also) that no man shal dwell there in?

22:15	Thinkest thou to reigne, now that thou prouokest me to wrath with yi Cedre trees? Dyd not thy father eate and drynke, and prospere well, as loge as he dealt with equite ad rightuousnesse?
22:16	Yee when he helped ye oppressed and poore to their right, then prospered he well. From whence came this, but only because he had me before his eyes? saieth the LORDE.
22:17	Neuertheles, as for thine eyes and thine herte, they loke vpon covetousnesse, to shed innocent bloude, to do wronge and violence.
22:18	And therfore, thus saieth the LORDE agaynst Ioachim, ye sonne of Iosias kynge of Iuda: They shall not mourne for him (as they vse to do) alas brother, alas syster: Nether shall they saye vnto him: Alas syr, alas for that noble prynce.

22:26	Morouer, I will sende the, and thy mother that bare the, in to a straunge londe, where ye were not borne, ad there shall ye dye.
