| 44:1 | This is the worde that was shewed to Ieremy, concernyng all the Iewes: which dwelt in Egypte: at Migdol, at Taphnis, at Noph, & in the lande of Patures. |
| 44:2 | Thus sayethe the Lorde of hostes, the God of Israel: Ye haue sene all the misery, that I haue brought vpon Ierusalem, and vpon the cityes of Iuda: so that thys daye they are desolate, and no man dwellynge therin: |
| 44:3 | and that because of the greate blasphemies which they committed, to prouoke me vnto anger. In that they went backe to do sacrifyce and worship vnto straunge goddes: whom nether ye, ner youre fathers haue knowne. |
| 44:4 | Howebeit, I sent vnto them my seruauntes all the prophetes. I rose vp early, I sent vnto them, and gaue them warnyng. O do no soche abhominable thynges, & thynges that I hate. |
| 44:5 | But they wolde not folowe ner herken, to turne from their wickednes, & to do nomore sacrifyces vnto straunge goddes. |
| 44:6 | Wherfore myne indignation and wrath was kyndled, and it brente vp the cytyes of Iuda, the feldes with the stretes of Ierusalem, so that they were made waste and desolate, as it is come to passe thys daye. |
| 44:7 | Nowe therfore, thus sayth the Lorde of hoostes, the God of Israel: Howe happeneth it, that ye do so greate euyll vnto youre awne soules: thus to destroye the men and wemen, chyldren and babes of Iuda? so that none of you is lefte, |
| 44:8 | because ye prouoke me vnto wrathe with the worckes of youre awne handes: when ye offer vnto straunge goddes in the lande of Egipt, where as ye be gone to dwell. That ye myght vtterly peryshe, and that ye myght be reuyled and shamefully intreated of all natyons. |
| 44:9 | Or haue ye nowe forgotten the wickednes of your forefathers, the wickednes of the kinges of Iuda and their wyues, the wyckednes that ye youre selues and youre wyues haue done in the lande of Iuda, in the cytie and in the lande of Ierusalem. |
| 44:10 | Yet are ye not sory vnto this daye, ye feare not, nether walke ye in my lawe and in my commaundementes, that I haue geuen vnto you and youre forefathers. |
| 44:11 | Therfore thus sayeth the Lorde of hoostes, the God of Israel: I am stedfastly aduised and determyned to punysshe you, & to rote out all Iuda. |
| 44:12 | As for the remnaunt of Iuda, that purposly wente into Egipt, ther to dwell, I wyll take them, and they shall all be destroyed. In the lande of Egypt shall they perysshe, beynge consumed with the swearde and with honger. For from the leest vnto the moost, they shall perysshe with the swearde and with honger. Moreouer, they shalbe reuyled, abhorred, shamed, and confounded. |
| 44:13 | For I wyll viset them that dwell in Egypte, as I haue visyted Ierusalem, with the swearde, with honger and with pestilence. |
| 44:14 | So that none of the remnaunt of Iuda, which are gone to dwell in Egipte, shall be left to come agayne into the lande of Iuda all though they thynke to come thyther agayne, and to dwell there. For none shall come agayne, but soch as are fledd awaye. |
| 44:15 | Then all the men which knewe that their wyues had offred vnto straunge goddes, and a greate sorte of wyues that stode there, yee, and all the people that dwelt there in Egipt in the cytie of Patures, answerde Ieremye, and sayde: |
| 44:16 | As for the wordes that thou hast spoken vnto vs, in the name of the Lorde, we wyll in no wyse heare them: |
| 44:17 | but whatsoeuer goeth out of oure awne mouthe, that we wyll do. We wyll do sacrifyce and offer oblatyons vnto the quene of heauen, lyke as we and our forefathers, oure kynges and oure heades haue done in the cytie of Iuda, and in the stretes and feldes of Ierusalem. For then had we plenteousnes of vitayles, then were we in prosperyte, and no mysfortune came vpon vs. |
| 44:18 | But sens we left to burne incense, and to do sacrifyce vnto the quene of heauen, we haue had scarcenesse of all thynges, and perisshe with the swearde and honger. |
| 44:19 | Last of all, when we wemen dyd sacrifyce and offered vnto the quene of heauen, dyd we make her cakes and poure vnto her drinckofferinges, euen to that ymage dyd we sacrifyce and seruice, without oure husbandes wylles? |
| 44:20 | Then sayde Ieremy vnto all the people, to the men, to the wemen, and to all the folke, which had geuen him that answere: |
| 44:21 | Dyd not the Lorde remember the sacrifyces that ye, youre forefathers, youre kynges and rulers, with all the people, haue offered in the cyties of Iuda, in the stretes and lande of Ierusalem? and hath he not consydered thys in his mynde? |
| 44:22 | In somoch that the Lorde might no longer suffer the wyckednes of youre inuencyons, and the abhomynable thynges, which ye dyd? Is not youre lande desolate and voyde: yee, abhorred and accursed, so that no man dwelleth therein eny more, as it is come to passe thys daye? |
| 44:23 | Dyd not all thys happen vnto you, because ye made soch sacrifyces to ydols, and synned agaynst the Lorde. Ye haue not folowed hys voyce, to walke in hys lawe, in his ordynaunces and statutes. Yee, this is the cause, that all misfortune happened vnto you, as it is come to passe this daye. |
| 44:24 | Moreouer, Ieremy spake vnto all the people and to all the wemen. Heare the worde of the Lorde all Iuda, ye that be in the lande of Egipt. |
| 44:25 | Thus sayth the Lord of hoostes the God of Israel. Ye and your wyues haue spoken with youre awne mouth, the thinge that ye haue fulfylled in dede. Yee, thus haue ye sayde: We wyll nott fayle, but perfourme the vowes that we haue vowed, we will do sacrifyce & powre out drinckofferinges to the quene of heauen. Purposly wyll ye set vp your awne meanynges and perfourme your vowes. |
| 44:26 | And therfore, heare the wordes of the Lorde, all Iuda, ye that dwell in the lande of Egipte. Beholde, I haue sworne by my greate name, sayth the Lorde: that my name shall not be rehearsed thorowe eny mans mouthe of Iuda, in all the lande of Egipte, to saye: The Lorde God lyueth, |
| 44:27 | for I wyll watche, to plage them, and not for theyr wealthe. And all the men of Iuda that be in the lande of Egypte shall peryshe with the swearde, and with honger, vntyll they be vtterly destroyed. |
| 44:28 | Neuertheles, those that fledd awaye for the swearde, shall come agayne into the lande of Iuda: but there shall be very feawe of them. And all the remnaunt of Iuda, that are gone into Egypte, there to dwell, shall knowe whose wordes shall be founde true: theyrs or myne. |
| 44:29 | Take thys for a token that I wyll viset you in this place, sayth the Lord: and that ye maye knowe that I (without doubte) will perfourme my purpose vpon you to punyshe you. |
| 44:30 | Beholde, sayth the Lorde, I wyll delyuer Pharao Hophrea kynge of Egipte into the handes of his enemyes that seke after his lyfe: euen as I gaue Zedekias the king of Iuda, into the handes of Nabuchodonosor kynge of Babilon hys enemye which sought after his lyfe. |
| 44:1 | The word that was maad to Jeremye, and to alle the Jewis, that dwelliden in the lond of Egipt, dwellinge in Magdalo, and in Taphnys, and in Memphis, and in the lond of Phatures, |
| 44:2 | and seide, The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Ye sien al this yuel, which Y brouyte on Jerusalem, and on alle the citees of Juda; and lo! tho ben forsakun to dai, and no dwellere is in tho; |
| 44:3 | for the malice which thei diden, to terre me to wrathfulnesse, and that thei yeden, and maden sacrifice, and worschipiden alien goddis, whiche thei knewen not, bothe ye, and thei, and youre fadris. |
| 44:4 | And Y sente to you alle my seruauntis profetis; and Y roos bi nyyte, and sente, and seide, Nyle ye do the word of sich abhomynacioun. |
| 44:5 | And thei herden not, nether bowiden doun her eere, that thei schulen be conuertid fro her yuels, and schulden not make sacrifice to alien goddis. |
| 44:6 | And myn indignacioun and my strong veniaunce is wellid togidere, and is kindlid in the citees of Juda, and in the stretis of Jerusalem; and tho ben turned in to wildirnesse, and wastnesse, bi this dai. |
| 44:7 | And now the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Whi doon ye this greet yuel ayens youre soulis, that a man of you perische and a womman a litil child and soukynge perische, fro the myddis of Juda, nether ony residue thing be left in you, |
| 44:8 | that terre me to wraththe bi the werkis of youre hondis, in makynge sacrifice to alien goddis in the lond of Egipt, in to which ye entriden, that ye dwelle there, and that ye perische, and be in to cursyng, and in to schenschipe to alle the folkis of erthe? |
| 44:9 | Whether ye han foryete the yuels of youre fadris, and the yuels of the kingis of Juda, and the yuels of her wiues, and youre yuels, and the yuels of youre wyues, whiche thei diden in the lond of Juda, and in the cuntreis of Jerusalem? |
| 44:10 | Thei ben not clensid `til to this dai, and thei dredden not, and thei yeden not in the lawe of the Lord, and in myn heestis, whiche Y yaf bifore you, and bifore youre fadris. |
| 44:11 | Therfor the Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal sette my face in you in to yuel, |
| 44:12 | and Y schal leese al Juda, and Y schal take the remenauntis of Juda, that settiden her faces, to go in to the lond of Egipt, and to dwelle there; and alle schulen be waastid in the lond of Egipt, thei schulen falle doun bi swerd, and schulen be wastid in hungur, fro the leeste `til to the mooste, thei schulen die bi swerd and hungur, and schulen be in to swering, and in to myracle, and in to cursyng, and in to schenschipe. |
| 44:13 | And Y schal visite on the dwelleris of Egipt, as Y visitide on Jerusalem, in swerd, and in hungur, and in pestilence. |
| 44:14 | And noon schal be, that schal ascape, and be residue of the remenauntis of Jewis, that goen to be pilgrimys in the lond of Egipt, and to turne ayen to the lond of Juda, to which thei reisen her soulis, that thei turne ayen, and dwelle there; thei schulen not turne ayen thidir, no but thei that fledden. |
| 44:15 | Forsothe alle men answeriden to Jeremye, and wisten, that her wyues maden sacrifice to alien goddis, and alle wymmen, of whiche a greet multitude stood, and alle the puple of dwelleris in the lond of Egipt, in Fatures, and seiden, |
| 44:16 | We schulen not here of thee the word which thou spekist to vs in the name of oure Lord God, |
| 44:17 | but we doynge schulen do ech word that schal go out of oure mouth, that we make sacrifice to the queen of heuene, and that we offre to it moist sacrifices, as we diden, and oure fadris, oure kingis, and oure princes, in the citees of Juda, and in the stretis of Jerusalem; and we weren fillid with looues, and it was wel to vs, and we sien noon yuel. |
| 44:18 | But fro that tyme, in which we ceessiden to make sacrifice to the queen of heuene, and to offre to it moist sacrifices, we hadden nede to alle thingis, and we weren wastid bi swerd and hungur. |
| 44:19 | That if we maken sacrifice to the queen of heuene, and offren to it moist sacrifices, whether withouten oure hosebondis we maden to it cakis, to worschipe it, and looues to be offrid? |
| 44:20 | And Jeremye seide to al the puple, ayens the men, and ayens the wymmen, and ayens al the puple, that answeriden to hym the word, and he seide, |
| 44:21 | Whether not the sacrifice which ye sacrifisiden in the citees of Juda, and in the stretis of Jerusalem, ye, and youre fadris, youre kyngis, and youre princes, and the puple of the lond, terriden God to veniaunce? The Lord hadde mynde on these thingis, and it stiede on his herte; |
| 44:22 | and the Lord myyte no more bere, for the malice of youre studies, and for abhomynaciouns whiche ye diden. And youre lond is maad in to desolacioun, and in to wondryng, and in to curs, for no dwellere is, as this dai is. |
| 44:23 | Therfor for ye maden sacrifice to idols, and synneden to the Lord, and herden not the vois of the Lord, and yeden not in the lawe, and in the comandementis, and in the witnessis of hym, therfor these yuels bifellen to you, as this dai is. |
| 44:24 | Forsothe Jeremye seide to al the puple, and to alle the wymmen, Al Juda, that ben in the lond of Egipt, here ye the word of the Lord. |
| 44:25 | The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, and spekith, Ye and youre wyues spaken with youre mouth, and filliden with youre hondis, and seiden, Make we oure vowis whiche we vowiden, that we make sacrifice to the queen of heuene, and offre to it moist sacrifices; ye filliden youre vowis, and diden tho in werk. |
| 44:26 | Therfor, al Juda, that dwellen in the lond of Egipt, here ye the word of the Lord; Lo! Y swoor in my greet name, seith the Lord, that my name schal no more be clepid bi the mouth of ech man Jew, seiynge, The Lord God lyueth, in al the lond of Egipt. |
| 44:27 | Lo! Y schal wake on hem in to yuel, and not in to good; and alle the men of Juda, that ben in the lond of Egipt, schulen be waastid, bi swerd and hungur, til thei be wastid outerli. |
| 44:28 | And a fewe men that fledden the swerd, schulen turne ayen fro the lond of Egipt in to the lond of Juda; and alle the remenauntis of Juda, of hem that entren in to the lond of Egipt, to dwelle there, schulen wite, whos word schal be fillid, myn ether hern. |
| 44:29 | And this schal be a signe to you, seith the Lord, that Y schal visite on you in this place, that ye wite, that verili my wordis schulen be fillid ayens you in to yuel. |
| 44:30 | The Lord seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal bitake Farao, the kyng of Egipt, in to the hond of hise enemyes, and in to the hond of hem that seken his lijf, as Y bitook Sedechie, the kyng of Juda, in to the hond of Nabugodonosor, kyng of Babiloyne, his enemye, and sekynge his lijf. |
| 44:1 | This is the worde yt was shewed to Ieremy cocerninge all ye Iewes, which dwelt in Egipte: at Magdal, at Taphnis, at Memphis, & in the londe of Patures. |
| 44:2 | Thus saieth the LORDE of hoostes the God of Israel: Ye haue sene all ye mysery, yt I haue brought vpon Ierusalem, and vpon all the cities of Iuda: so that this daye they are desolate, and no man dwellinge therin: |
| 44:3 | & yt because of the greate blasphemies, which they committed, to prouoke me vnto anger: In that they wente backe to do sacrifice ad worshipe vnto straunge goddes: whom nether they, ner ye, ner yor fathers haue knowne. |
| 44:4 | How be it, I sent vnto them my seruautes all the prophetes: I rose vp early, I sent vnto them, and gaue them warninge: O do no soch abhominable thinges, & thinges that I hate |
| 44:5 | But they wolde not folowe ner herke, to turne from their wickednes, and to do nomore sacrifice vnto straunge goddes. |
| 44:6 | Wherfore my indignacion & wrath was kyndled, and it brente vp the cities of Iuda, the feldes with the stretes off Ierusalem: so that they were made waist and desolate, as it is come to passe this daye. |
| 44:7 | Now therfore thus saieth the LORDE of hoostes the God of Israel: How happeneth it, that ye do so greate euell vnto youre owne soules, thus to destroye the men and women, childre and babes of Iuda? so that none of you is left, |
| 44:8 | because ye prouoke me vnto wrath with the workes of youre owne hondes: whe ye offre vnto straunge goddes in the londe off Egipte, where as ye be gone to dwell: That ye might vtterly perishe, and that ye might be reuyled and shamfully intreated of all nacions. |
| 44:9 | Or, haue ye now forgotten the wickednes off yor forefathers, the wickednes off ye kynges of Iuda and their wyues, ye wickednes that ye youre selues ad youre wyues haue done in the londe of Iuda, in the cite and in the londe off Ierusalem? |
| 44:10 | Yet are ye not sory this daye, ye feare not, nether walke ye in my lawe and in my commaundementes, that I haue geue vnto you and youre forefathers. |
| 44:11 | Therfore thus saieth the LORDE of hoostes the God off Israel: I am stedfastly advysed and determed, to punysh you, and to rote out all Iuda. |
| 44:12 | As for the remnaunt off Iuda that purposly wente in to Egipte, there to ease them off their mysery: I will take them, and they shall all be destroyed. In ye londe of Egipte shall they perishe, beynge consumed with the swearde and with honger. For from ye leest vnto ye most, they shal perishe with the swearde and with honger. Morouer they shalbe reuyled, abhorred, shamed, and confounded. |
| 44:13 | For I will viset them that dwell in Egipte, as I haue visited Ierusalem: with the swearde, with honger and with pestilence: |
| 44:14 | So that none off the remnaunt off Iuda, which are gone to dwell in Egipte, shall be left to come agayne in to ye londe off Iuda: all though they thynke to come thither agayne, and to dwell there. For none shal come agayne, but soch as are fled awaye. |
| 44:15 | Then all the men which knewe that their wyues had offred vnto straunge goddes, & a greate sorte off wyues that stode there, yee and all the people that dwelt there in Egipte in the cite of Patures, answerde Ieremy, & sayde: |
| 44:16 | As for the wordes that thou hast spoken vnto vs in the name of the LORDE, we will in no wyse heare them: |
| 44:17 | but what so euer goeth out of oure owne mouth, that wil we do: We will do sacrifice, and offre oblacions vnto the Quene off heauen: like as we and or forefathers, oure kynges and oure heades haue done in the cities off Iuda, and in the stretes and feldes of Ierusalem. For then had we plenteousnesse off vytales, then were we in prosperite, and no my?fortune came vpon vs. |
| 44:18 | But sens we left of, to offre, and to do sacrifice vnto the Quene of heauen, we haue had scarcenes of all thinges, and perish wt the swearde and honger. |
| 44:19 | Last of all, when we wome did sacrifice and offred vnto the Quene of heaue, did we make her cakes ad poure vnto her drinkofferinges, to do her seruyce, without oure hu?bondes wylles? |
| 44:20 | Then sayde Ieremy vnto all the people, to the men, to the women and to all the folke, which had geuen him that answere: |
| 44:21 | Dyd not the LORDE remembre the sacrifices that ye, yor forefathers, youre kiges & rulers (wt all the people) haue offred in the cities of Iuda, in the stretes and londe off Ierusalem? and hath he not considered this in his mynde? |
| 44:22 | In so moch, that the LORDE might no longer suffre the wickednes off youre inuencions, and the abhominable thynges which ye dyd? Is not youre londe desolate & voyde, yee and abhorred, so that no ma dwelleth therin enymore, as it is come to passe this daye? |
| 44:23 | Dyd not all this happen vnto you, because ye made soch sacrifice, and synned agaynst the LORDE? Ye haue not folowed his voyce, to walke in his lawe, in his ordinaunces and statutes. Yee this is the cause, that all mysfortune happened vnto you, as it is come to passe this daye. |
| 44:24 | Morouer, Ieremy spake vnto all the people and to all the women: Heare the worde off the LORDE all Iuda, ye that be in the londe off Egipte: |
| 44:25 | Thus saieth the LORDE off hoostes the God of Israel: Ye and youre wyues haue spoken with youre owne mouth, the thinge that ye haue fulfilled in dede. Yee thus haue ye sayde: We will not fayle, but do the thynge that pleaseth vs: we wil do sacrifice and poure out drynkoffringes to the Quene of heauen. Purposly haue ye set vp youre owne good meanynges, & hastely haue ye fulfilled youre owne intente. |
| 44:26 | And therfore, heare the worde of the LORDE all Iuda, ye that dwell in the londe off Egipte. Beholde, I haue sworne by my greate name (saieth the LORDE) that my name shal not be rehearsed thorow eny mans mouth of Iuda, in all the londe of Egipte: to saye: The LORDE God lyueth, |
| 44:27 | for I wil watch, to plage them, and not for their wealth. And all the men of Iuda that be in the lode of Egipte, shal perish with the swearde and with hoger, vntill they be vtterly destroyed. |
| 44:28 | Neuertheles, those that fled awaye for ye swearde, shal come agayne in to the lode of Iuda (but there shal be very fewe of them) And all the remnaunt off Iuda, that are gone in to Egipte, there to dwell, shall knowe, whose wordes shalbe founde true: theirs or myne. |
| 44:29 | Take this for a token, that I wil viset you in this place (saieth the LORDE) and that ye maye knowe, how that I (without doute) wil perfourne my purpose vpon you,) to punysh you. |
| 44:30 | Beholde (saieth the LORDE I wil delyuer Pharao Ophram kynge of Egipte in to the hondes of his enemies, yt seke after his life: euen as I gaue Sedechias the kynge of Iuda in to the hondes of Nabuchodonosor kige of Babilo, which sought after his life. |
