18:1When Iesus had spoken these things, hee went foorth with his disciples ouer the brooke Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entred, and his disciples.
18:2And Iudas which betraied him, knewe also the place: for Iesus oft times resorted thither with his disciples.
18:3Iudas then, after hee had receiued a band of men and officers of the high Priests, and of the Pharises, came thither with lanternes and torches, and weapons.
18:4Then Iesus, knowing all things that shoulde come vnto him, went foorth and said vnto them, Whom seeke yee?
18:5They answered him, Iesus of Nazareth. Iesus sayde vnto them, I am hee. Nowe Iudas also which betraied him, stoode with them.
18:6Assoone then as hee had saide vnto them, I am hee, they went away backewardes, and fell to the grounde.
18:7Then he asked them againe, Whome seeke yee? And they sayd, Iesus of Nazareth.
18:8Iesus answered, I said vnto you, that I am he: therefore if ye seeke me, let these go their way.
18:9This was that the worde might be fulfilled which hee spake, Of them which thou gauest me, haue I lost none.
18:10Then Simon Peter hauing a sword, drewe it, and smote the hie Priests seruant, and cut off his right eare. Nowe the seruants name was Malchus.
18:11Then sayde Iesus vnto Peter, Put vp thy sworde into the sheath: shall I not drinke of the cuppe which my Father hath giuen me?
18:12Then the bande and the captaine, and the officers of the Iewes tooke Iesus, and bound him,
18:13And led him away to Annas first (for he was father in lawe to Caiaphas, which was the hie Priest that same yeere)
18:14And Caiaphas was he, that gaue counsel to the Iewes, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
18:15Nowe Simon Peter folowed Iesus, and another disciple, and that disciple was knowen of the hie Priest: therefore he went in with Iesus into the hall of the hie Priest:
18:16But Peter stood at the doore without. Then went out the other disciple which was knowen vnto the hie Priest, and spake to her that kept the doore, and brought in Peter.
18:17Then saide the maide that kept the doore, vnto Peter, Art not thou also one of this mans disciples? He sayd, I am not.
18:18And the seruants and officers stoode there, which had made a fire of coles: for it was colde, and they warmed themselues. And Peter also stood among them, and warmed himselfe.
18:19(The hie Priest then asked Iesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
18:20Iesus answered him, I spake openly to the world: I euer taught in the Synagogue and in the Temple, whither the Iewes resort continually, and in secret haue I sayde nothing.
18:21Why askest thou mee? aske them which heard mee what I sayde vnto them: beholde, they knowe what I sayd.
18:22When he had spoken these thinges, one of the officers which stoode by, smote Iesus with his rod, saying, Answerest thou the hie Priest so?
18:23Iesus answered him, If I haue euill spoken, beare witnes of the euil: but if I haue well spoken, why smitest thou me?
18:24Nowe Annas had sent him bound vnto Caiaphas the hie Priest)
18:25And Simon Peter stoode and warmed himselfe, and they said vnto him, Art not thou also of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
18:26One of the seruaunts of the hie Priest, his cousin whose eare Peter smote off, saide, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
18:27Peter then denied againe, and immediatly the cocke crewe.
18:28Then led they Iesus from Caiaphas into the common hall. Nowe it was morning, and they themselues went not into the common hall, least they should be defiled, but that they might eate the Passeouer.
18:29Pilate then went out vnto them, and said, What accusation bring yee against this man?
18:30They answered, and saide vnto him, If hee were not an euill doer, we woulde not haue deliuered him vnto thee.
18:31Then sayde Pilate vnto them, Take yee him, and iudge him after your owne Lawe. Then the Iewes sayde vnto him, It is not lawfull for vs to put any man to death.
18:32It was that the worde of Iesus might be fulfilled which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
18:33So Pilate entred into the common hall againe, and called Iesus, and sayde vnto him, Art thou the king of the Iewes?
18:34Iesus answered him, Saiest thou that of thy selfe, or did other tell it thee of me?
18:35Pilate answered, Am I a Iewe? Thine owne nation, and the hie Priestes haue deliuered thee vnto me. What hast thou done?
18:36Iesus answered, My kingdome is not of this worlde: if my kingdome were of this worlde, my seruants would surely fight, that I should not be deliuered to the Iewes: but nowe is my kingdome not from hence.
18:37Pilate then said vnto him, Art thou a King then? Iesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a King: for this cause am I borne, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should beare witnes vnto the trueth: euery one that is of the trueth, heareth my voyce.
18:38Pilate said vnto him, What is trueth? And when he had saide that, hee went out againe vnto the Iewes, and said vnto them, I finde in him no cause at all.
18:39But you haue a custome, that I shoulde deliuer you one loose at the Passeouer: will yee then that I loose vnto you the King of ye Iewes?
18:40Then cried they all againe, saying, Not him, but Barabbas: nowe this Barabbas was a murtherer.

18:1When Iesus had spoken these wordes he wet forth with his disciples over the broke Cedron where was a garden into the which he entred with his disciples.
18:2Iudas also which betrayed him knewe the place: for Iesus ofte tymes resorted thyther with his disciples.
18:3Iudas then after he had receaved abonde of men and ministres of the hye Prestes and Pharises came thyther with lanterns and fyerbrondes and wepens.
18:4Then Iesus knowynge all thinges that shuld come on him went forth and sayde vnto them: whom seke ye?
18:5They answered him: Iesus of Nazareth. Iesus sayde vnto them: I am he. Iudas also which betrayed him stode with them.
18:6But assone as he had sayd vnto them I am he they went backe wardes and fell to the grounde.
18:7And he axed the agayne: whome seke ye? They sayde:Iesus of Nazareth.
18:8Iesus answered I sayde vnto you I am he. If ye seke me let these goo their waye.
18:9That ye sayinge might be fulfilled which he spake: of the which thou gavest me have I not lost one.
18:10Simon Peter had a swearde and drue it and smote the hye prestes servaunt and cut of his ryght eare. The servauntes name was Malchas.
18:11Then sayde Iesus vnto Peter: put vp thy swearde into ye sheath: shall I not drinke of ye cup which my father hath geven me?
18:12Then the copany and the captayne and the ministres of of the Iewes toke Iesus and bounde him
18:13and led him awaye to Anna fyrst: For he was fatherelawe vnto Cayphas which was ye hye preste that same yeare.
18:14Cayphas was he that gave counsell to ye Iewes that it was expediet that one man shuld dye for the people.
18:15And Simon Peter folowed Iesus and another disciple: that disciple was knowen of ye hye preste and went in with Iesus into the pallys of the hye preste.
18:16But Peter stode at the dore with out. Then went out that other disciple which was knowen vnto the hye preste and spake to the damsell that kept the dore and brought in Peter.
18:17Then sayde ye damsell that kept the dore vnto Peter: Arte not thou one of this mannes disciples? He sayde: I am not.
18:18The servauntes and the ministres stode there and had made a fyre of coles: for it was colde: and they warmed them selves. Peter also stode amonge them and warmed him selfe.
18:19The hye preste axed Iesus of his disciples and of his doctrine.
18:20Iesus answered him: I spake openly in ye worlde. I ever taught in ye synagoge and in the temple whyther all ye Iewes resorted and in secrete have I sayde nothynge:
18:21Why axest thou me? Axe them whiche hearde me what I sayde vnto the. Beholde they can tell what I sayde.
18:22Whe he had thus spoken one of ye ministres which stode by smote Iesus on the face sayinge: answerest thou the hyepreste so?
18:23Iesus answered him. If I have evyll spoke beare witnes of ye evyll: yf I have well spoke why smytest thou me?
18:24And Annas sent him bounde vnto Caiphas ye hye preste.
18:25Simon Peter stode and warmed him selfe. And they sayde vnto him: arte not thou also one of his disciples? He denyed it and sayde: I am not.
18:26One of the servauntes of the hye preste (his cosyn whose eare Peter smote of) sayde vnto him: dyd not I se the in the garden with him?
18:27Peter denyed it agayne: and immediatly the cocke crewe.
18:28Then led they Iesus fro Cayphas into the hall of iudgement. It was in the mornynge and they them selves went not into the iudgement hall lest they shuld be defyled but that they myght eate the paschall lambe.
18:29Pylate then went out vnto the and sayde: what accusacion bringe ye agaynste this man?
18:30They answered and sayd vnto him. If he were not an evyll doar we wolde not have delyvered him vnto the.
18:31Then sayd Pylate vnto the: take ye him and iudge him after youre awne lawe. Then the Iewes sayde vnto him. It is not lawfull for vs to put eny ma to deeth.
18:32That ye wordes of Iesus myght be fulfilled which he spake signifyinge what deeth he shuld dye.
18:33Then Pylate entred into the iudgemet hall agayne and called Iesus and sayd vnto him: arte thou the kynge of ye Iewes?
18:34Iesus answered: sayst thou that of thy selfe or dyd other tell it the of me?
18:35Pylate answered: Am I a Iewe? Thyne awne nacion and hye prestes have delyvered ye vnto me. What hast thou done?
18:36Iesus answered: my kyngdome is not of this worlde. Yf my kyngdome were of this worlde then wolde my ministres suerly fight yt I shuld not be delyvered to ye Iewes but now is my kyngdome not fro hence.
18:37Pylate sayde vnto him: Arte thou a kynge then? Iesus answered: Thou sayst yt I am a kynge. For this cause was I borne and for this cause came I into ye worlde yt I shuld beare witnes vnto the trueth. And all that are of ye trueth heare my voyce.
18:38Pilate sayde vnto him: what thinge is trueth? And when he had sayd yt he went out agayne vnto the Iewes and sayde vnto them: I fynde in him no cause at all.
18:39Ye have a custome that I shuld delyver you one lowsse at ester. Will ye that I lowse vnto you the kynge of ye Iewes.
18:40Then cryed they all agayne sayinge: Not him but Barrabas that Barrabas was a robber.
