| 7:1 | Therfor, most dereworthe britheren, we that han these biheestis, clense we vs fro al filthe of the fleische and of the spirit, doynge holynesse in the drede of God. |
| 7:2 | Take ye vs; we han hirt no man, we han apeirid no man, we han bigilid no man. |
| 7:3 | Y seie not to youre condempnyng; for Y seide bifor, that ye ben in youre hertis, to die togidere and to lyue togidere. |
| 7:4 | Myche trist is to me anentis you, myche gloriyng is to me for you. Y am fillid with coumfort, Y am plenteuouse in ioie in al oure tribulacioun. |
| 7:5 | For whanne we weren comun to Macedonye, oure fleisch hadde no reste, but we suffriden al tribulacioun; with outforth fiytingis, and dredis with ynne. |
| 7:6 | But God that coumfortith meke men, coumfortide vs in the comyng of Tite. |
| 7:7 | And not oneli in the comyng of him, but also in the coumfort bi which he was coumfortid in you, tellinge to vs youre desire, youre weping, youre loue for me, so that Y ioiede more. |
| 7:8 | For thouy Y made you sorie in a pistle, it rewith me not; thouy it rewide, seynge that thouy thilke pistle made you sori at an our, now Y haue ioie; |
| 7:9 | not for ye weren maad soreuful, but for ye weren maad soreuful to penaunce. For whi ye ben maad sori aftir God, that in no thing ye suffre peirement of vs. |
| 7:10 | For the sorewe that is aftir God, worchith penaunce in to stidfast heelthe; but sorewe of the world worchith deth. |
| 7:11 | For lo! this same thing, that ye ben soreuful aftir God, hou myche bisynesse it worchith in you; but defendyng, but indignacioun, but drede, but desire, but loue, but veniaunce. In alle thingis ye han youun you silf to be vndefoulid in the cause. |
| 7:12 | Therfor thouy Y wroot to you, Y wroot not for hym that dide the iniurie, nether for hym that suffride, but to schewe oure bisinesse, which we han for you bifor God. |
| 7:13 | Therfor we ben coumfortid, but in youre coumfort more plenteuousli we ioyeden more on the ioie of Tite, for his spirit is fulfillid of alle you. |
| 7:14 | And if Y gloriede ony thing anentis hym of you, Y am not confoundid; but as we han spoke to you alle thingis, so also oure glorie that was at Tite, is maad treuthe. |
| 7:15 | And the inwardnesse of hym be more plenteuousli in you, which hath in mynde the obedience of you alle, hou with drede and trembling ye resseyueden hym. |
| 7:16 | Y haue ioye, that in alle thingis Y triste in you. |
| 7:1 | Seing then we haue these promises, dearely beloued, let vs clense our selues from all filthinesse of the flesh and spirit, and finish our sanctification in the feare of God. |
| 7:2 | Receiue vs: we haue done wrong to no man: we haue corrupted no man: we haue defrauded no man. |
| 7:3 | I speake it not to your condemnation: for I haue said before, that ye are in our hearts, to die and liue together. |
| 7:4 | I vse great boldnesse of speach toward you: I reioyce greatly in you: I am filled with comfort, and am exceeding ioyous in all our tribulation. |
| 7:5 | For when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on euery side, fightings without, and terrours within. |
| 7:6 | But God, that comforteth the abiect, comforted vs at the comming of Titus: |
| 7:7 | And not by his comming onely, but also by the consolation wherewith he was comforted of you, when he tolde vs your great desire, your mourning, your feruent minde to me warde, so that I reioyced much more. |
| 7:8 | For though I made you sorie with a letter, I repent not, though I did repent: for I perceiue that the same epistle made you sorie, though it were but for a season. |
| 7:9 | I nowe reioyce, not that ye were sorie, but that ye sorowed to repentance: for ye sorowed godly, so that in nothing ye were hurt by vs. |
| 7:10 | For godly sorowe causeth repentance vnto saluation, not to be repented of: but the worldly sorowe causeth death. |
| 7:11 | For beholde, this thing that ye haue bene godly sory, what great care it hath wrought in you: yea, what clearing of yourselues: yea, what indignation: yea, what feare: yea, howe great desire: yea, what a zeale: yea, what reuenge: in all things ye haue shewed your selues, that ye are pure in this matter. |
| 7:12 | Wherefore, though I wrote vnto you, I did not it for his cause that had done the wrong, neither for his cause that had the iniurie, but that our care toward you in the sight of God might appeare vnto you. |
| 7:13 | Therefore we were comforted, because ye were comforted: but rather we reioyced much more for the ioye of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all. |
| 7:14 | For if that I haue boasted any thing to him of you, I haue not bene ashamed: but as I haue spoken vnto you all things in trueth, euen so our boasting vnto Titus was true. |
| 7:15 | And his inwarde affection is more aboundant toward you, when he remembreth the obedience of you all, and howe with feare and trembling ye receiued him. |
| 7:16 | I reioyce therefore that I may put my confidence in you in all things. |
| 7:1 | Therefore, having these promises, greatly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the reverence of God. |
| 7:2 | Receive us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one. |
| 7:3 | I do not say this to condemn you; because I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together with you. |
| 7:4 | Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I am exceedingly joyful in all our tribulation. |
| 7:5 | Because, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears. |
| 7:6 | Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, |
| 7:7 | and not only by his coming, but also by the consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us of your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind towards me, so that I rejoiced even more. |
| 7:8 | Because, even though I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. Because, I perceive that the same letter made you sorry, though only for a season. |
| 7:9 | Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. Because you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. |
| 7:10 | Because, godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. |
| 7:11 | Because, observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: yes what diligence it produced in you, yes what clearing of yourselves, yes what indignation, yes what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you have proven yourselves to be clear in this matter. |
| 7:12 | Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it because of him who had done the wrong, nor because of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you. |
| 7:13 | Therefore we have been comforted in your comfort. And we rejoiced exceedingly more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all. |
| 7:14 | Because, if in anything I have boasted to him about you, I am not ashamed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, even so our boasting which I made before Titus was found true. |
| 7:15 | And his inner affections are greater for you as he remembers the obedience of you all, how with reverence and trembling you received him. |
| 7:16 | Therefore I rejoice that I have confidence in you in all things. |
