1 Timothy - Chapter: 5

5:1Blame thou not an eldere man, but biseche as a fadir, yonge men as britheren; elde wymmen as modris,
5:2yonge wymmen as sistris, in al chastite.
5:3Honoure thou widewis, that ben very widewis.
5:4But if ony widewe hath children of sones, lerne sche first to gouerne her hous, and quyte to fadir and modir; for this thing is acceptid bifor God.
5:5And sche that is a widewe verili, and desolate, hope in to God, and be bisy in bisechingis and preieris niyt and dai.
5:6For sche that is lyuynge in delicis, is deed.
5:7And comaunde thou this thing, that thei be withouten repreef.
5:8For if ony man hath not cure of his owne, and most of hise household men, he hath denyed the feith, and is worse than an vnfeithful man.
5:9A widewe be chosun not lesse than sixti yeer, that was wijf of oon hosebonde,
5:10and hath witnessing in good werkis, if sche nurschede children, if sche resseyuede pore men to herbore, if sche hath waischun the feet of hooli men, if sche mynystride to men that suffriden tribulacioun, if sche folewide al good werk.
5:11But eschewe thou yongere widewis; for whanne thei han do letcherie, thei wolen be weddid in Crist,
5:12hauynge dampnacioun, for thei han maad voide the firste feith.
5:13Also thei idil lernen to go aboute housis, not oneli ydel, but ful of wordis and curiouse, spekynge thingis that bihoueth not.
5:14Therfor Y wole, that yongere widewis be weddid, and bringe forth children, and ben hosewyues, to yyue noon occasioun to the aduersarie, bi cause of cursid thing.
5:15For now summe ben turned abak aftir Sathanas.
5:16If ony feithful man hath widewis, mynystre he to hem, that the chirche be not greuyd, that it suffice to hem that ben very widewis.
5:17The prestis that ben wel gouernoures, be thei had worthi to double onour; moost thei that trauelen in word and teching.
5:18For scripture seith, Thou schalt not bridil the mouth of the oxe threischinge, and, A werk man is worthi his hire.
5:19Nyle thou resseyue accusyng ayens a preest, but vndur tweyne or thre witnessis.
5:20But reproue thou men that synnen bifor alle men, that also othere haue drede.
5:21Y preie bifor God, and Jhesu Crist, and hise chosun aungelis, that thou kepe these thingis with oute preiudice, and do no thing in bowynge `in to the othere side.
5:22Put thou hondis to no man, nether anoon comyne thou with othere mennus synnes. Kepe thi silf chast.
5:23Nyle thou yit drinke watir, but vse a litil wyn, for thi stomac, and `for thin ofte fallynge infirmytees.
5:24Sum mennus synnes ben opyn, bifor goynge to dom; but of summen thei comen aftir.
5:25And also goode dedis ben opyn, and tho that han hem in othere maner, moun not be hid.

 

5:1Rebuke not an elder: but exhorte him as a father and the yonger me as brethren
5:2the elder wemen as mothers ye yonger as sisters with all purenes.
5:3Honoure widdowes which are true wyddowes.
5:4Yf eny wyddowe have chyldren or neves let them learne fyrst to rule their awne houses godly and to recompence their elders. For that is good and acceptable before God.
5:5She that is a very wyddowe and frendlesse putteth her trust in god and continueth in supplicacion and prayer nyght and daye.
5:6But she that liveth in pleasure is deed even yet alive.
5:7And these thynges commaunde that they maye be without faut
5:8Yf ther be eny that provideth not for his awne and namly for them of his housholde the same denyeth the fayth and is worsse then an infydell.
5:9Let no wyddowe be chosen vnder threscore yere olde and soche a one as was the wyfe of one man
5:10and well reported of in good workes: yf she have noresshed children yf she have bene liberall to straugers yf she have wesshed the saynctes fete yf she have ministred vnto them which were in adversite yf she were continually geve vnto all maner good workes.
5:11The yonger widdowes refuse. For when they have begone to wexe wantone to the dishonoure of Christ then will they mary
5:12havynge damnacio because they have broke their fyrst fayth.
5:13And also they learne to goo from housse to housse ydle ye not ydle only but also tryflynge and busybodyes speakynge thynges which are not comly.
5:14 I will therfore that ye yonger weme mary and beare childre and gyde the housse and geve none occasio to ye adversary to speake evill
5:15For many of them are all redy turned bake and are gone after Satan.
5:16And yf eny man or woman that beleveth have widdowes let the minister vnto them and let not the congregacion be charged: that yt maye have sufficient for them that are widdowes in dede.
5:17The elders yt rule wel are worthy of double honoure most specially they which laboure in ye worde and in teachinge.
5:18For the scripture sayth: Thou shalt not mousell the mouth of the oxe that treadeth out the corne. And the labourer is worthy of his rewarde.
5:19Agaynst an elder receave none accusacion: but vnder two or thre witnesses.
5:20Them that synne rebuke openly that other maye feare.
5:21I testifie before god and the lorde Iesus Christ and the electe angels that thou observe these thynges with out hasty iudgement and do nothynge parcially.
5:22Laye hondes sodely on no man nether be partaker of other mes synnes: kepe thy silfe pure.
5:23Drynke no lenger water but vse a lytell wyne for thy stommakes sake and thyne often diseases.
5:24Some mennes synnes are open before honde and goo before vnto iudgement: some mennes synnes folowe after.
5:25Lykwyse also good workes are manyfest before honde and they that are other wyse canot be hid.

5:7And these thinges commaunde, that they maye be without blame.
5:8But yf there be eny man that prouydeth not for his awne, and specially for them of his houssholde, the same hath denyed the faith, and is worse then an infydele.
5:9Let no wedowe be chosen vnder threscore yeare olde, and soch one as was ye wife of one man,
5:10and well reported of in good workes, yf she haue brought vp children well, yf she haue bene harberous, yf she haue wasshed the sayntes fete, yf she haue mynistred vnto the which were in aduersite, yf she were continually geuen to all maner of good work
5:11But ye yonger wedowes refuse. For whan they haue begonne to waxe wanton agaynst Christ, then wil they mary,
5:12hauynge their damnacion, because they haue broke ye first faith.
5:13Besydes this they are ydell, and lerne to runne aboute fro house to house. Not onely are they ydell, but also tryflinge & busybodies, speakynge thinges which are not comly.
5:14I wil therfore that the yonger wemen mary, beare children, gyde the house, to geue ye aduersary no occasion to speake euell.
5:15For some are turned back allready after Satha.
5:16Yf eny man or woman that beleueth haue wedowes, let them make prouysion for the, and let not the congregacion be charged: that they which are righte wedowes, maye haue ynough.
5:17The Elders that rule well, are worthy of double honoure, most specially they which laboure in the worde & in teachinge.
5:18For ye scripture sayeth: Thou shalt not mosell the mouth of ye oxe yt treadeth out ye corne. And: The labourer is worthy of his rewarde.
5:19Agaynst an Elder receaue none accusacion, but vnder two or thre witnesses.
5:20The that synne, rebuke in the presence of all, that other also maye feare.
5:21I testifye before God and the LORDE Iesus Christ, and ye electe angels, that thou obserue these thinges without haistie iudgment, and do nothinge parcially.
5:22Laye hondes sodenly on no ma, nether be partaker of other mes synnes. Kepe yi selfe pure.
5:23Drynke no lenger water, but vse a litle wyne for yi stomackes sake, and because thou art oft tymes sicke.
5:24Some mes synnes are ope, so that they maye be iudged afore hande: but some mens (synnes) shal be manifest herafter.
5:25Likewyse also good workes are manifest afore hade: and they that are otherwyse can not be hyd.
